Chapter 55. Repent-2

It's almost nine o'clock, and the familiarity of this peaceful cul-de-sac is calling out to me. The faint blare of a television, the gentle clinking of cutlery, the collection of distant voices.

In a bid to keep up my pretence, I hoist my backpack higher, slowly ambling to the house. Whoever sees me will definitely confirm my intentions -- I'm only here to pick up some clothes. I have a feeling that I'm being watched. I can sense it. Somewhere beyond our little cul-de-sac, high in the trees or maybe hidden behind the foliage of the nearby forest, somebody has their eyes on me. Thank goodness I only have to check the house. Anything beyond that would make things difficult for me. In order to continue my public visit, I deliberately ring the doorbell despite the house key that is attached to the underside of my belt.

Good move, Aly.
