Where there were women, there were conflicts.
Although Edith often attended such gatherings and made many friends, not everyone liked her way of doing things or wanted to sweeten her up.
These rich and powerful ladies had their cliques which were the microcosm of society.
Some people praised Edith, and naturally, some disliked her.
They looked down on Edith's smug look and felt she was not grand enough.
Thus, they found fault and provoked Edith. "This dress of yours is so expensive. Did your son really buy it for you?"
Edith saw the person who spoke was her sworn enemy. Edith knew she must be jealous right now, so Edith replied arrogantly, "So what if he did? What does it have to do with you?
"In any case, you can't afford it."
Edith's sworn enemy was immediately angered when she heard that.
Edith's enemy hadn't wanted to make a big deal out of this. Now it seemed Edith was also asking for it!
