On the phone, Amelie and Lamont chatted about the work. Finally, Amelie returned to the topic.
"How's the investigation going on?"
"I haven't had a clue yet. Don't be discouraged. I will find out the truth soon."
Amelie didn't speak, and there was a moment of silence.
"Don't be afraid. You won't be in danger again."
Lamont promised suddenly. That made Amelie stunned.
"Have a good rest. I'll hang up."
Amelie didn't know what to say, so she hung up the phone quickly.
Lamont, on the other end of the phone, looked at his screen with a smile.
He believed Amelie would be reconciled with him sooner or later.
It was the best night's sleep he'd had in years.
The next day, just as Amelie got up, she heard a knock on the door.
"Who is it?"
Amelie brushed her teeth and walked to open the door.
"Amelie, something happened to Cynthia."
Belen was flustered.
