"What has she said to you before that was mean?" Victor Chadwick probed Monica Baldwin as he stared at her.
Monica was stunned, as she never expected Victor to perceive things directly.
"They were just words that couldn't hurt me..."
"It's not up to you to determine whether they hurt or not. That's for me to judge," Victor declared firmly and dominantly. "You're married to me, so it's my job to protect you. Even if she is my mother, it's not a reason for you to get hurt. Tell me, alright?"
After listening, Monica gently touched Victor's hand and calmly smiled: "It's not a big deal, just a few harsh words."
