She woke up sweating heavily. Her breathing was too fast as if she had woken up from a nightmare. No doubt she had. It was a nightmare about her father's death. She had been having those since she was too small to even remember anything at all.
Her father was a blurry figure in her life. She didn't remember much of him. While everyone in her class used to write about their ideals she never had one to write about.
She had her mother. Her mother was supportive of her, but that was pretty much it. She was more like a next-door neighbor to her rather than being a mother figure in her life.
She tried breathing normally, took the deep breaths she used to take after these horrible nightmares, and chugged a glass of water sitting on her bedside table.
It had almost become a daily activity now. She doesn't know why she had those nightmares about her father. She couldn't discuss it with her mother as she used to get super crazy once anyone mentioned his name.
Ava was young. She was in her early twenties gradually transitioning towards mid-twenties. Although her life never really gave her a chance to be a child, a dumb teen, or a young woman making questionable life choices.
She didn't age like other girls, instead, all she knew and learned early on in her life was to be self-sufficient, independent of others, and devoid of all emotions.
She didn't like flowers, nor had she played with barbies. She didn't have binge-watching Sundays instead she was busy working her ass off on most days.
As she woke up that day, with sweaty palms she had an agenda in her mind. She wanted to be able to take hold of herself. She was at peace because she understood how terrible life could get. When you have nothing to lose you get numb to almost everything life throws at you.
Her father had another family. She wanted to meet them and see them closely, she had some plans for her father in her mind. That day, she decided to act upon them and woke up with the idea of changing her nightmares into dreams.
_______
For breakfast, she had a coffee, and she gathered all her documents in a yellow file, She wore a beige and brown business casual outfit with brown pants, a beige button-up shirt, and a brown blazer on top. For makeup, she kept it nude and a peachy blush to go with her milk chocolate brown lip stain.
She had worn beige heels with it, and her hair was left open. She had a beautiful long bob which was growing enough to become at shoulder's length these days. Everything about her was pretty.
Her fragrance contained woody musky tones along with a pinch of vanilla and cinnamon. Enough to make many heads turn at once.
She kept her file in her brown laptop bag, threw it on her shoulder, and was on her way to her new mission which she had been pondering over the last few days.
______
"Good Morning Sir, Would you like your newspaper?" The driver asked as Noah stepped outside the mansion and inched towards his car.
"No, not today, I will get it at the office. I have a meeting, we must reach in 10 minutes, Josh"
"Yes, Sir," he said opening the car door for him.
He stepped inside unbuttoning his brown blazer.
As he walked into his office he could sense all eyes on him, some looked at him with envy in their eyes, some women wanted to be the one he walked with, and yet some waited desperately for him to trip and fall watching each step he took closely.
One thing he had learned pretty early on in his life was that people would run you over if you were of no use to them. He had always tried to take his steps making sure the people who were walking with him would continue taking the steps.
