Reminiscence

She was waiting for a response, that night she couldn't sleep properly. All night, she waited for the night to end so that she could get her answer in the morning. She wasn't sure if they would reach back to her so quickly, she didn't even know if they would reach back at all.

All she wanted was to get this job because all her life's plans depended on it. She didn't have a plan B. Now that she focused, even if one step of her plan didn't go as she had planned, she didn't really have a backup for it.

She was just trying to get her answers. Answers her mom wouldn't give her. She needed to know what happened between them, that drifted them so far apart. All she knew was that her parents were high school sweethearts. Then what could've gone so wrong possibly?

She waited and waited for the morning, chugging a cup or two of coffee while waiting, trying to code for a freelancing project she was working on side by side. The morning had dawned upon her and it was suddenly 7.

That is when her brain completely gave up and forced her to sleep. Her mother who was passing by, came in and saw her sleeping on the bed, her laptop by her side. She turned it off and turned the lights off. Wondering what was up with Ava, she went out for a jog. She was probably gonna ignore it like everything else in her life.

Meanwhile, at the office Noah was sitting on his armchair with his eyes closed trying to calm his nerves massaging his temples with two fingers when Kate barged in.

"Noahhh, hope I'm not disturbing" she chirped and came to sit in front of him.

He forced a smile on his face "What's up Kate, what did you require of me this fine morning?" he asked, masking a courteous smile on his face.

"I wanted to ask you about the position of our IT support specialist, you remember right? We were holding interviews for it the day before yesterday." she explained in detail.

"I precisely remember."

"I have brought the resumés from that day, you can have a look and I'llalso tell you about the ones I find the most promising. We have to finish this today, so please be bit more helpful." she said judging by his tired looking eyes.

"Yes, wait let me have a look." he ran his eyes through the resumés of all those people. At last, it was hers, Ava Thompson. Her resumé stood out from the rest. He remembered her, and a small dimple that he noticed on her cheek when she smiled introducing herself.

"Hire her, Ava." he said, closing the file, shutting his eyes and resting his head on the back of the armchair.

"Yes, I personally liked her too, and also this guy." she commented pointing to another file.

"No, I think she'd do better, she seemed confident." he remained that way.

She woke up at the first ring of a call. She noticed it was an unknown number. On her phone's screen, the time was 12 p.m.

"Hey Ava, this is Martha from Helix. Hope you are doing well"

"Hello Martha,I'm doing fine hope you're good too"

"I am calling to inform you that you've been hired in our IT support specialists team, and you are required to join from Monday. I will forward the timings and the contact number of the HR manager, he will further assist you with everything. Good day!" She had provided her with the best-ever news.

Shutting her phone, Ava got up with excitement, only to realize her head was spinning cause she hadn't eaten since last night.

Her obsession was getting to her, more than she thought.

__________

"Fiona, where is my matte black tie, did you see it?" Michael entered the room in a hurry.

"Yes, it is with the other items the maid took for dry cleaning. There's another matte black tie that I bought for you, it is in your tie drawer. Wait, let me get it for you."

She took care of everything that concerned Michael. Despite living in a pretty rich household where there was plenty of house help, she liked doing things for him by herself.

Fetching the tie, she came back to their room and tried handing it to him, to which he looked at her with an exasperated expression. Within a second, she remembered the cause.

He didn't know how to tie a tie and despite there being obvious tension between them and a rift in their relationship, Fiona could never deny him anything. You cannot be rude and un-giving to the people you once held in the softest corners of your heart.

She let out a small sigh and came near him in order to help him tie his tie.

"Fiona" he whispered, her hands still around his neck.

"Hmm?" She hummed back

"What has happened to us?" He sounded in pain.

"I don't know Mike, maybe you should ask this question from yourself"

"I do, every single day I do. And I realize more and more how wrong I did"

"If you want me to say, I have forgiven you, I can't. At least not for a while" A tear escaped her eye.

He wiped the tear off with his thumb and kissed her forehead, Fiona closed her eyes upon his action and her expression had changed to a soft one for a second.
