Forks

"Wow!" Liam said from the backseat of our car, "so this is forks?" He said, leaning close to his window to look out at the tall trees, a light fog clouding the tops.

"It sure is." I said, looking at the thick green forest through the windows.

"It's just like Carlisle and Esme said." Rosalie said from the passenger seat next to me.

"Yeah, sunlight is pretty rare in these parts." I said with a small chuckle, following the car in front of me onto a muddy side road.

"You have been here before, right?" Rosalie asked, catching Liam's attention from the back seat with her words, "I remember you saying something along those lines while we were packing." She added.

I gave her a glance and a small smile, "yeah, but that was hundreds of years ago." I said, watching as Liam's eyes grew slightly wider.

It had only been recently that we had started discussing my past around Liam, who seemed to have quite the curiosity about it.

The idea that his old dad was thousands of years old was something that blew his mind when he first found out.

"What was it like here?" Liam asked, leaning forward to hear my every word.

"Much like it is now. Except for the roads and Forks itself that is." I said as the car shook from the unpaved but well used side road.

"There's a tribe of native Americans that live around here. I helped them out of a bind back then. It would be neat to go talk to them." I said.

Liam's eyes grew slightly bigger in amazement.

"Indians!" Liam asked.

I shook my head, "Native Americans. Indians are from India in South Asia. A beautiful country with a rich culture. Native Americans are native to the Americas with their own rich culture."

"Oh…" Liam said, his brows furrowed, "what were they like?" he asked, my previous statement seeming to fly over his head as images of wild Comanche warriors he had seen on TV flew through his head.

"Very nice people." I said simply, deciding the stories about the many raided villages I had come across weren't best to tell him yet.

For another ten minutes I told Liam stories about my and my Alpaca Tony's travels across America.

Finally, we reached our new home.

This time, I took up the tab for our new home, giving Esme my checkbook with pre-signed checks inside.

In other words, giving her literally billions of dollars to build our new home, which she designed.

She didn't use anywhere close to that much, but she also didn't hold back on the design she picked from her vast collection of designs.

In total, she used close to 1.2 million dollars to have it built.

Which in 1952 was a lot of damn money.

She had crews of people working on the house 24/7.

Day and night, weekends and holidays.

That's why it only took them four months to complete the build.

The house was 8,000 square feet, with 8 spacious bedrooms and 4 full bathrooms.

We weren't going to be lacking in the space department here.

Putting the car in park behind Carlisles, I stepped out to look the house over while the two other cars parked behind us.

It was two stories tall, with a charming design that blended seamlessly with the surrounding forest.

The exterior was a beautiful mix of wood and dark brick, giving it a timeless, natural feel.

Large windows allowed the outside scenery to flow into the house, inviting nature into every room. Esme had outdone herself, crafting a home that was not only functional but also a masterpiece of architecture.

As I stood there, admiring the intricate details of the house, Rosalie and Liam emerged from the car.

Rosalie was the first to join me, her eyes scanning the house with a look of approval.

"It's perfect," she said softly, her gaze lingering on the sturdy wooden beams that held the structure together. "Esme really knows how to capture the essence of a place."

Liam bounded up beside me after slamming his door shut, his excitement palpable. "Can we explore the inside now?" he asked eagerly, his youthful energy infectious.

"Soon. Let's wait for everyone to join us." I said, ruffling his hair.

He swatted at my arm to get me to stop, thinking only small children should be treated like that.

I chuckled, turning back to Rosalie who was now looking at the large five door garage that was built next to our home.

"She said it can hold ten cars." I said, watching as the others started to exit their cars.

"So that means I can have six of my cars brung up from Las Vegas." Rose said with a smile.

Our car collection has grown significantly in recent years.

I blame that partly on myself.

I liked to give expensive gifts to everyone, and after a while, gold and diamonds lose their luster.

So, I started giving everyone new cars every year or two.

Except Rose. I practically gave her a new car every holiday.

After a while there were just too many, so I had a large underground car park built by my casino, just for our cars.

Whenever we wanted to trade out our cars, I would pay a company to pick up the cars from the car park, load them into a truck, and have them brought to us.

Once they were brought to us, they would take our old cars back to the car park.

"Everyone ready?" Esme asked as we all stood together looking the outside of the house over.

We all gave sounds of affirmation.

The front door was a grand, double-door entry made of heavy oak, polished to a shine.

As we walked inside, the spacious foyer greeted us with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The interior was just as magnificent as the outside, with high ceilings and an open floor plan that made the space feel even larger.

To the right, a living room with plush seating arrangements and a stone fireplace beckoned us to sit and relax.

The kitchen, visible through a wide archway, was a chef's dream, equipped with the latest appliances and ample counter space.

"This is great!" I exclaimed, "You've truly outdone yourself." I said, turning to look at Esme, who was standing next to Carlisle, their hands intertwined.

The rest of the family expressed their admiration for the home.

Alice was already planning where to place decorations, while Jasper and Emmett inspected the sturdy construction with nods of approval.

Liam was already darting from room to room, his laughter echoing through the halls. "This place is huge!" he called out, his voice filled with awe.

I wandered through the house, appreciating the little details that Esme had included: the wide staircase with its handcrafted banister, the large windows that framed the surrounding forest like works of art, and the cozy nooks perfect for reading or quiet contemplation.

Upstairs, I found the bedrooms, each one thoughtfully designed and tailored to the occupant's taste.

My and Rosalie's own room was fantastic, with plenty of space and a large window that overlooked the forest, offering quite a view.

After some thirty minutes of exploring the house on our own, we all regrouped in the foyer.

"Anyone else feeling a bit peckish?" Emmett asked.

"Absolutely." Evelyn said, "we've been in the move for what? Two days now without stopping for a good hunt."

"It would also be good to see what populates the area." Carlisle added.

"Ohh, yeah." Liam said, turning to look up at me and his mother, "can we go and explore?" He asked excitedly.

"Sure, me and you can go, but your mother needs to go and hunt." I said.

"Sounds good to me." Liam said, excited for an adventure in a new land.

We all left the house, all of the vampires heading off together to hunt for some animals, while me and Liam stayed together heading in the opposite direction.
