Broken

Evangeline

"Hurry, to the cars", I said spotting one of the teacher's cars. I was fifth percent sure I could jump-start it, this is one of the basic survival skills my father had taught me amongst other things. I haven't seen him in three months and my elder brother, Alex is the one who's been looking after me.

"There are no keys in there", Oliver stressed and I gave him a knowing look, he soon relented and we ran toward one of the teachers ' SUVs. I hopped on the driver's seat and Oliver on the passenger while Hannah and the other four took the back seat.

"Hold on tight", I said after successfully starting the car.

We didn't know where we were going, but I was positive the city was overrun with these creeps.

"So... What no?", Oliver asked the very question I had in mind.

"I don't know, but I suggest we avoid the city. My best bet is that it's overrun with those creeps", I say looking out to the smoke in the sky.

"Eva, your house is not in the city. Can't we just hide out there", Hannah asked, it wasn't a bad idea and I was sure we could find real weapons and a sturdy car.

"Yeah that's a good idea, what do you guys think", I asked the other four. I only recognized one from the group of four, Liana. We were in the same physics class.

"That sounds great", Liana answered with a friendly smile.

My house was thirty minutes away from the school and the drive was rather quiet we thankfully didn't encounter any zombies.

"Damn it",Hannah curssed causing me to slow down a litttle and glance back.

"Is there a problem Hannah", I asked concerned.

"My necklace broke, it's the one you gave me for my birthday last year", she whined holding the broken silver piece on her plam.

That was a custom necklace i had ordered for her, it bore her initials inside it's heart pendant. I guess it gave out while we were buisy getting away.

"It's alright Hannah, I'll get you a new one", that was a lie, if only i knew. What if we never go back to normal day to day life, what if we're stuc in this horror show.
