Chapter Twenty Six: Taking Responsibility

Vallus woke up to the sound of someone singing softly. It did not matter what she sang but the tune soothed him greatly. When he turned to direction of the voice he saw Adelaide staring out of a window.

"Adelaide," his voice came out throaty.

"You're awake," she stopped singing and turned to face him.

"I didn't know you sing. You sing beautifully," Vallus remarked.

"My sister used to sing that tune whenever it was bedtime," she gave a distant smile.

"I am sorry about your sister and for earlier it was insensitive of me to..."

"It's fine. I totally understand," she said.

"Why did you not go home?" Vallus asks, he had instructed that John escort her home.

"I... I really can't. I think I'll stay here till the rogues have been taken care of," there was fear in her voice.

"I will take you home myself," Vallus assured her.

"I don't know... Maybe in the company of Lord Creon and..."
