Chapter Seventy Six: A Deal

"What... What I..." Velma was too stunned to speak. She felt foolish for thinking keeping her slave clothes in a tree was a good idea.

"Do not bother lying," the girl said, the smirk she wore still etched on her face.

Velma sighed. "Yes, I am from the palace."

"Whose slave are you?" She asked.

"I can't tell you that," Velma said. She knew that there was a possibility the news of Tharnis wolf slave would reach the tiny settlement and then she would be doomed.

"Then I shall tell on you when the kings men come to patrol, or better still, the slave hunters."

"Tharnis."

Velma had settled down comfortably in the humble hut of the old woman who graciously took her in. The atmosphere exuded a sense of tranquility, and Velma couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging in this newfound sanctuary. She did not even feel as though she was amongst vampires.
