The sun had barely risen when the weary group arrived back at the Noble House of Kaizer. The once vibrant halls felt cold and hollow in the early light, and everyone moved like ghosts, silent, slow, and burdened. Dirt clung to their boots, and exhaustion hung heavily in their eyes. The celebration from the night before felt like a distant dream.
As the great front doors creaked open, they were met by Percival, who stood tall, but his face bore a grim expression.
"We have troubling news," he said gravely. "We were attacked last night. A duo of Alpha werewolves infiltrated the garden. They were searching for Sam. In the end… they killed Jonathan. One escaped, and James was taken."
The group froze. Shock rippled through them like a wave crashing against stone.
Jack's voice shattered the silence. "Where's my sister?!" he shouted, his voice laced with panic.
Percival nodded toward the hallway. "She's in her room."
Jack didn't wait another moment. He sprinted off, Jessica close behind. He burst into Sam's room, his heart pounding. There, he found her asleep on the bed, untouched. Relief washed over him so suddenly, he nearly collapsed.
He moved to her side and gently brushed a strand of hair from her face, a soft smile forming. Jessica entered and stood behind him, watching his expression soften. But Sam stirred.
"Jack…" she whispered, slowly opening her eyes.
She jolted upright, her breath catching in her throat. "Is my prince okay? Is James okay?" Her eyes were wide, frantic, tears already threatening to spill.
Jack lowered his gaze. "He's been taken… to the Xeno Noble House."
"Noooo! My Prince, my Prince!" Sam screamed, burying her face in her blankets. Her cries shook the room as Jessica sat beside her, rubbing her back. Jack remained where he stood, hands clenched, staring blankly at the floor.
Later that morning, the throne room gathered the court's most trusted. King William sat upon his throne, Queen Juliet by his side. The nobles and knights stood in solemn attendance.
"I've gathered you all," King William began, "to discuss last night's events. The details have spread fast, I know. Because of this tragedy, I've sent word to the Kaisens. The wedding is postponed until next week."
Lancelot stepped forward and dropped to one knee. "My king, I understand but what of James? We cannot let this act of violence go unanswered. They infiltrated our home. That is war."
The king's eyes darkened. "It's not so simple. Marching with an army leaves us exposed to the Vampire Kingdom. Though we have a peace treaty, they will see our absence as an opportunity. We cannot risk it, for one man."
His words sank like cold steel into the hearts of those present. Sam, still grieving, silently wept into her brother's chest. Many looked to Lancelot, hoping he would speak again.
"We don't need an army," Lancelot said. "Let us form a small unit. We can infiltrate the werewolf noble house and rescue James."
But King William's patience had worn thin.
"You assume he's still alive? You assume it's not a trap? I cannot allow such recklessness."
Lancelot opened his mouth to speak once more, but the king raised his hand.
"It's final, Lancelot."
Far from the human kingdom, in the dark throne room of the Xeno Noble House, another king lounged on his throne.
King Siegfried sipped from his wine glass as Johnny knelt before him.
"I assume you've returned with Sam?" Siegfried asked, his tone calm but coiled with menace.
Johnny bowed deeper. "Luther was slain by Percival. I failed to retrieve Sam but I did bring you something else."
Two burly werewolf guards dragged a shackled figure before the throne. James fell to his knees, head bowed but eyes fierce.
Johnny gestured proudly. "A noble vampire, Your Majesty. Surely, you can find some use for...z"
Siegfried's goblet smashed across Johnny's face, cutting his forehead and staining him with wine.
"When I ask for my whore, I expect my whore!" he roared, his voice echoing against stone walls.
James lifted his head, glaring silently at the werewolf king.
"Behead this trash!" Siegfried commanded.
Johnny unslung the massive sword from his back and placed the blade against James's throat.
But Siegfried narrowed his eyes.
"Wait. Stop."
Johnny hesitated.
"Everyone," Siegfried said with a cruel smile, "applaud Johnny for his success."
Reluctantly, the guards clapped. Johnny straightened with a grim smile, blood still dripping down his cheek.
"You brought me a toy," Siegfried sneered. "Take him to the dungeon. I'll play with him tonight."
Johnny nodded and led James away, flanked by guards.
Once they were gone, Siegfried turned to his chamberlain.
"Catherine. Bring me my whore. I'm horny."
A pale woman stepped forward, clutching the hand of a terrified girl hiding behind her.
"She has a name, my lord," Catherine said quietly. "Her name is Anna."
Siegfried snorted. "I don't give a fuck."
He seized Anna by the hair, ignoring her screams, and began dragging her toward his bedchamber.
"Catherine! Please help me!" Anna cried.
But Catherine only looked down at the stone floor, her face blank and hollow.
The door slammed shut behind them. Anna's cries were swallowed by silence.
And the world, once again, turned darker.
