Chapter 388

"Commander! The East Africans are advancing! What should be our course of action?" The anxious voice of one of Wiggins' soldiers echoed through the tense atmosphere.

Wiggins took a somber look at the young men who had followed him into this dire situation and sighed deeply. "We've lost, and it's my responsibility. I've put all of you in harm's way. You must escape while you still have a chance!"

The soldiers hesitated, torn between their loyalty to their commander and the fear of the approaching East African forces.

"And what about you, Commander?" one of them asked, his voice trembling with worry.

Wiggins pushed them away gently, his eyes filled with resignation. "Forget about me. Just get out of here as fast as you can."

With a heavy heart, the soldiers turned and began to retreat, leaving their commander behind.

Wiggins, left alone, took a deep breath and reached into his pocket, pulling out a pistol. He held it in his trembling hand, contemplating the gravity of the situation. After a moment of hesitation, he raised the pistol to his chin, closing his eyes.

"Goodbye, Transvaal," he whispered softly.

A deafening gunshot rang out, marking the tragic end of Commander Wiggins' life and the bleak conclusion of their battle.
