Chapter - 23 - He is So Sweet

Father Yi went back to the main room, hesitated for a long time, and tremblingly said that Yi Minghuan and Tang Li would not go to work in the field in the afternoon. 

He thought that his wife would fly into a rage and pick up the broom to hit someone, but he didn't expect that she didn't. She just cursed with an ugly face and let it go. 

Father Lin didn't feel relieved seeing this, but became even more worried. He knows that if she holds her anger back for a long time the trouble later would be even more violent. 

Thinking about what Minghuan said just now that he would not go back to the army, Father Yi became even more worried. His head drooped and his back became even more hunched, as if the sky was about to collapse. 

When Tang Li woke up, it was more than five o'clock in the afternoon. She opened her eyes in a daze, and saw the dilapidated mud wall. She was in a daze for a few seconds before remembering where she was.

"Are you awake? Drink some water." Yi Minghuan heard her breathing change and put down his book. He saw that she had woken up and poured her a glass of water.

"Thank you." She sat up on the bed weakly, took the cup, and felt her dry throat feel much better after drinking it. She saw the book on the bedside, and asked, "Are you reading? You did not go out?" 

"If I leave she might come and beat you." He said softly, then raised his hand to touch her forehead. He found that it wasn't as hot as it was in the clinic, so he felt relieved. 

"Thank you for watching over me. I slept really well and my illness is much better. I don't feel like I have a fever anymore." Tang Li responded calmly on the surface, but there was a roar in her heart. 

How could he be so considerate, attentive, even guard her specially, and treat her so well. This puts her under a lot of pressure! 

She has to be nice to him too!

Otherwise, I would be so sorry for my conscience. 

"Are you hungry? Do you want to wait for dinner or have this bun first?" He  asked her.

She asked for the time and found that she slept five o'clock. She couldn't help but be surprised that she slept for so long. She lifted the quilt and got out of bed, and saw a steamed bun and half a bowl of soup left on the table. Hungry, she said, "I'll eat after washing up."

Yi Minghuan responded and put the book in his bag. He whispered: "Don't tell them I am not leaving for work in the army.

"Why?" Tang Li asked puzzled. 

"Father won't let me talk, because he's afraid she will make trouble." He lowered his eyes and his voice was low. Tang Li sensed that he was in a bad mood. 

Tang Li gave him a sympathetic look when she thought about his parents and nodded in understanding.

She thought for a while, and said: "You are still young. You are only 22 years old. If you don't want to go to the army anymore you can go to university! College students are very popular and precious nowadays."

Yi Minghuan turned around immediately, stared at her strangely, frowned, and asked: 

"Why did you come up with such strange thoughts again?! All educated people in the city have come to the countryside to receive re-education from the poor and lower-middle class peasants. The country does not allow the entrance exam anymore, so how can you go to college?!"

"...I just heard from those educated youths from the city that they the college entrance examination can be resumed soon! They also said that the situation is different now, and they might be able to take the exam in a year or two!" 

Tang Li secretly scolded herself for not being smart enough to speak, forgetting that the college entrance examination has not yet resumed.

She quickly lowered her head, pretending to be innocent and said: "I don't know much about the outside world. I just repeated what I heard, don't make fun of me.".....
