After Father Yi left, Tang Li and Yi Minghuan set aside their earlier unhappiness and continued packing their belongings.
They carefully wrapped their bedding and clothes in sheets and secured the remaining scattered items with hemp rope, preparing everything for easy transportation.
Meanwhile, Su Cheng, following her fallout with Yi Wanjing, decided to pack up her things and return to her mother's house.
Yi Wanjing was preoccupied with taking care of his ailing mother, which left him alone to manage the household.
In the village, Zeng Yazhu, the captain of the production team, organized the villagers for the upcoming autumn harvest. As he assigned tasks, he noticed that the Yi family members were conspicuously absent from work.
Concerned, he decided to inquire about their situation.
"What's going on here? We have a lot of work to do with the autumn harvest approaching! Why aren't you all at work?" Zeng Yazhu asked, his brow furrowing.
"Captain, I'll head to work right away. But, my mother fell ill yesterday and had a high fever. I need to give her some medicine," Yi Wanjing explained.
"My wife went back to her mother's house after a dispute with my brother's wife. Captain, the house is in chaos, and I can't leave for work," he added.
Upon hearing this, Zeng Yazhu's frown deepened, and he scolded, "When the family split yesterday, how could your mother have so much energy that she mistreated Minghuan and his wife to such an extent? She must be upset to have a fever only because she has to give them their share."
"And Wanjing don't be careless and say lies to me! When I met your wife earlier, she said she was angry with you and was leaving for her mother's house."
Yi Wanjing's face turned beet red under Zeng Yazhu's reproach, but he continued to argue,
"It's all because they made trouble with us! As soon as my younger brother returned yesterday, the family became restless. Captain, don't be deceived by my brother's wife. She's become very fierce."
Yi Wanjing then recounted Tang Li's alleged threats, claiming she had threatened to burn their house and harm him.
Zeng Yazhu, however, dismissed these claims, believing them to be baseless, and instead reprimanded Yi Wanjing.
Infuriated, Yi Wanjing couldn't contain his anger. His eyes turned red, and while stomping his feet he shouted at Tang Li, "Sister-in-law, come out! You say didn't you threaten to burn the house down yesterday!!"
Tang Li, not wanting to engage in an argument with him, stepped out with her head hung low.
She spoke in a meek, aggrieved tone, "Captain, I only spoke with my second sister-in-law this morning for their own good. I suggested they go to the county hospital for check-ups. It's essential to address any health issues promptly, and if there's a fertility problem, it's better to know early so that you could have child sooner. My second brother-in-law got upset when he heard this, claiming I was scolding him..."
Tang Li's explanation left Yi Wanjing feeling utterly defeated. Zeng Yazhu looked at him with a mix of sympathy and disdain.
Fuming with anger, Yi Wanjing wished he could vent his frustration, particularly on Tang Li.However, he found himself unable to do so.
At that moment, Yi Minghuan emerged and exchanged pleasantries with Captain Zeng Yazhu. Then, he gently pulled Tang Li aside, announcing that they were going to look for a house.
As soon as they left the yard, and seeing that there was no one around to witness, Tang Li couldn't help but burst into laughter.
She leaned in close to Yi Minghuan and whispered, "Did you see his face? His eyes and nose were twisted together."
Yi Minghuan, who couldn't resist being infected by her laughter, responded with a low chuckle, "Naughty."
Tang Li's cheeks reddened upon hearing his doting words and his sexy, hushed voice. She turned her head away, adjusting her hair uncomfortably.....
Small Theater :
Tang Li: (Frustrated, arguing with her in-laws) Why did you make them so annoying, author?
Author: Hey, it adds drama to the story! Plus, it's good character development for you.
Tang Li: (Rolls eyes) Yeah, yeah. Drama and character development, my favorite.
