Mrs Luo fell to her knees beside her husband, fear as well as confusion taking over her features. One minute they were arguing and the next thing she knew, he's groaning in pain on the floor.

She gently placed her hands on him in concern.

"Dear? Honey, what's wrong? What is going on?" She asked.

Mr Luo's breathing soon became labour. Each breath came out with a sound, almost as if he was choking.

"Help!!" Mrs Luo screamed at the top of her voice. "Jun! Liwei! Somebody help me. Help my husband."

Following the loud sound of her voice came hurried footsteps. A man in a butler-styled suit burst into the room. Behind him was a woman in a blue and white maid uniform.

"Oh my goodness. Master Luo!" The man called as he rushed to Mr Luo's side, the woman hot on his heels.

"Madam? What happened?" Butler Jun asked.

"We were just talking a-and he just f-fell," Mrs Luo stuttered as she rushed to get Mr Luo's phone. She tapped frantically on it and pressed it to her ear.

"Please, bring an ambulance. My husband, my husband just got a heart attack. Send help quickly. Please," Mrs Luo cried into the phone.

~At Yang Architectural Firm~

Mei Xing had fully resumed at Longwen's company now. She had her own office and had started to learn about what her position entails, all the while overseeing Lu Aotian's remodelling project.

It had really been an eye-opener to new things especially since Longwen had taken it upon himself to walk her down the path.

But aside from him, she has not been on the receiving end of her colleagues' welcoming sides. An example of that is her secretary. She had asked for some documents to be sent to her desk. It has been two hours since her request, yet she has not seen anything.

Sighing, Mei Xing stood from her swivel chair, adjusted her clothes and walked out of her office. As soon as she stepped out of her office, the sight she was met with appalled her.

Her secretary was busy laughing at something on her phone with another colleague. They were so engrossed in it that they did not hear her coming. Mei Xing tapped on the desk to get their attention.

"Excuse me," they raised their heads, acknowledging her presence. "I remember asking for some documents to be sent to my office. And what time is it now?"

The secretary and her friend shared a look. Scoffing, she questioned, "I do not think it is in my job description to check the time and tell you."

Mei Xing cocked a brow at the slight tilt of her head. She blinked and smiled. "I see. Well, it has been over two hours since I requested those documents. Why haven't I gotten them already?"

The secretary sighed and dropped her phone on the desk. "Listen. Just because you got this position out of thin air, that does not mean you get to boss me around."

To say that Mei Xing was shocked would be an understatement. She knew of the hatred this woman had for her, whatever the reason may be. But Mei Xing did not expect her to outrightly speak to her in such a manner.

"I was not informed that this is how things work around here. But I will have to see what the CEO has to say about it." Mei Xing waved her phone, a smile still plastered on her face. "And I have got it all on record for reference purposes, if you know what I mean."

The secretary and her friend gasped in shock. They were expecting Mei Xing to be a timid woman. They thought she would be a pushover and that they could easily ride on her. But what she just displayed, told them otherwise.

The secretary quickly rounded her table in panic.

"Ma p-please don't r-report me to our boss. If you do, I-I might lose my job. Please forgive my behaviour," she begged.

Mei Xing almost had the urge to laugh. "So you do care for your job. Then you should have thought about it before speaking rudely to me. I am your superior, whether I got this job without your knowledge or not," tossing her hair behind her shoulder, Mei Xing continued. "And it's not as if you were among the people the CEO consulted before hiring me. So you had better know your place."

Mei Xing walked away, not giving the secretary any chance to talk in defence or utter another word of apology. On getting to her office's door, she paused and turned. "That document had better be on my desk in the next five minutes. I've waited enough for it."

Mei Xing did not only prove that she should not be messed with. She made sure that they knew that she was not just some figurehead or a dumbo. She made them know that she was aware of her standing in the company, new or not and she was no pushover.

Once she was inside the walls of her office, she let out an exhausted sigh as she massaged her temples. "Human beings are really something else," she muttered.

At that exact moment, her phone buzzed to life, filling the room with the ringtone. Her face conjured a frown when she saw the name on the screen.

"What does she want now," Mei Xing wondered and received the call. "Hello?"

"You ungrateful child," Mrs Luo shouted. "Can you see what you have caused now? Can you see the result of your selfish, petty decision?"

"First of all, you can't call a child YOU disowned and fire insults at the child. Secondly, I can't see anything. Don't expect me to keep tabs on you when you threw me out of your life," Mei Xing said.

As if her words fell on deaf ears, Mrs Luo continued her rant. "You are a vile and ungrateful child. If not for your wickedness, Feng Houyi would not have bothered pulling out that money and the company would not have to suffer the loss."

"I'm not going to beg him. How many times do I have to-"

"YOUR FATHER HAD A HEART ATTACK!"
