Chapter 53: The Human World (Part 2)

Half an hour later, Shu Guan's figure slowly reappeared outside the back wall of this match factory.

He had carefully looked over everything in this factory, and as for the results, he couldn't say whether he was satisfied or not.

First, he went to see the workshop where the female paper-gluing workers worked. It was a huge warehouse, somewhat drafty inside, cold on windy days in winter, but still sturdy enough to basically not collapse.

Inside were piles of assembled or unassembled matchboxes, with more than a hundred female workers wearing sleeve protectors, sitting on small stools among the piles of matchboxes, silently gluing the matchboxes.

There was very little conversation, because in this place, for every additional matchbox glued, more money could be earned for the family. By the end of the year, perhaps they could buy an extra pound of meat for their husbands and children, or an extra set of new clothes.
