Chapter 42: Midnight Ghost (4k)

Yu Liang stared at the staircase for a while. The frog seemed to pay no heed to him, just humming mechanically as it threw stacks of hell money gathered beside it into the fire in front of it.

The flame danced fiendishly on its face, yet the frog remained stoic, as if it was the only living being in this world with only the duty of helping spirits to their next life.

It seems to have no interest in me.

Yu Liang thought silently as he tentatively took a step forward, then another, finally relaxing when he saw the frog made no move.

Should I continue up the stairs or explore this floor first?

He walked towards the first room, cautiously pushing the door open. The room was somewhat similar to the one downstairs, only devoid of neatly laid beds and peacefully sleeping paperman.

A faint chill radiated in other rooms, but this room did not elicit such sensations. It was completely ordinary, its normalcy enough to create a sense of unease.
