Lost in the Jungle

As the jungle heat scorched the wooden trees, the dancing monkeys tore open their prey, all while the bugs of the forest watched in silent glee, for they drank upon their bloody liquid to gain… to gain everything! 

  Day 2 

As Layla and Mary were dragged and dump down into the jungle floor lost and confused, Danicia said to the confused girl: 

[survive for a week… that is your mission! Kill or be killed! Those are your only options! We have no place for weakness here in the bloody rose! If this angers, you… good! Now is the time to feed that rage, for it is not a bad thing… in fact it might just save your life...] 

Now as Layla sat there watching the Canoness fleeting back on her Valkyrie, Layla said: 

{quickly Mary we need to get as much distance as we can form the others!} 

[why?] said Mary as she now just realized that they weren't the only two here, but in fact there were dozens of other girls from God knows where. 

{did you not just hear what the Canoness just said! She said "survive" for a week by any means possible! Don't you get it! I know it may seem smarter to make friends and work together but that is the biggest trap if I have ever seen one!} replied Layla 

[what do you mean?] asked Mary 

{Look I don't have time to explain, let's just get out of here quickly!} yelled Layla 

Meanwhile as Layla and Mary made their way deeper into the jungle: 

[so, this is the new recruit that the Canoness wanted badly… Oh! I see they choose to quickly leave without making any friends, with the other trainees… I wonder why?] said a voice, as she watches all the cadets through the Cherub mechanical eyes 

  [Easy… she understands the concept faster than the others…] replied Danicia as she stared at the monitor 

[Oh! Please explain to me…] replied the voice 

[easy… she is either afraid or smart or dumb… but one thing is for sure… this girl is differently a deep thinker!  She concluded the pros and the cons of her situation in a couple of seconds…] replied Danicia 

[Ok! But that doesn't explain anything!] replied the voice 

[sigh… with a thought process as slow as yours! You'll never make it to the Canoness rank! Look… to put a long explanation short, she decided that having more people or dealing with them was more trouble than it was worth! And in their situation, I would just so happen to agree!] replied Danicia 

[really?] replied the voice 

[sigh, look there are a long list of cons then there are pros when working with a lot of different types of people in a survival situation! Which is why depending on her skills, I said she was either dumb or smart…Now shut up and let me watch! If my gut feeling is true about her, then…] replied Danicia 

1 hour later 

[Isn't this far enough Layla! We don't even know where we are! Are you sure they can even locate us at the end of the week?] cried Mary 

{sigh… look Mary, they definitely know where we are… just look around carefully and I'm sure you can spot one! I mean they're not even trying to hide!} 

[look around for what!] replied Mary in a fright 

{look one is right there} replied Layla as she pointed in a direction 

[I'm looking and I don't see anything!] replied Mary 

{what? You don't see that obvious ugly looking baby that is spying on us as we speak!} replied Layla 

[Hey! Don't call them ugly! They are precious cherubs of our emperor!] replied Mary fuming 

{Ya… Ya… But can you not see them?} replied Layla 

[of course not! You're pointing far into the jungle} yelled Mary 

{umm... Odd they don't look that far away to me...} thought Layla to herself 

  But while she thought that, the people behind the monitor had a different expression on their face! And it is one of great concern rather than shock. 

[did she really just point at the Cherub! Do you mean to tell me she actually saw it! From that distance! The damn thing is even camouflage!] said the voice 

[umm… I knew there was something odd about her… listen up! Keep a close eye on her and always have a rescue team at the ready!]  demanded Danicia 

Meanwhile back to Layla 

{this is a good spot! Now let's check our bags and equipment!} said Layla with a bittersweet expression 

But while they took out their single chain swords with just enough fuel to last maybe a few good fights… their shiny recruit armor, thought to be for their protection, was now like a beacon to those who can discern their light in the jungle radiance! For as the monkeys of the jungle were torn in twain by bald men in bloody skulls, they lifted up their bloody spears and howled: 

[Blood for the blood God!] 

But while their chants went unheard, Layla said: 

{this isn't good… we only got enough food and water for a day! Sigh, look Mary we got some choices to make.} 

[like?] replied Mary 

{well… one, do we make a shelter or go searching for a better spot that has a river or a water source nearby! Or... three… we go hunting…} replied Layla 

[hunting what? Monkeys… deer?] replied Mary 

{No… I mean we hunt other people!} replied Layla to the very much shocked Mary 

[why should we hunt other people? And what people?] replied Mary concerningly 

{well, other recruits of course!} said Layla 

[Layla!] replied Mary in shock! 

{look calm down… I don't mean kill them… just take their stuff… which is one of the reasons we left them so quickly before they had a chance to take from us! Besides that's only an option, we could just strictly hunt animals but… let's be real neither of us have much experience on that front!} replied Layla 

  {speaking on experience… Mary, what are you good at?} asked Layla 

[Rude… we've been together for so long and you don't know anything about me!] cried Mary 

{sigh… sorry but can you please bear with me for now and just tell me!} replied Layla 

[fine… sniff… I can cook, clean…] replied Mary before abruptly stopping 

{Mary?} replied Layla 

Concerned about Mary's sudden strange behavior, Layla was about to reach out her hand, when she noticed that Mary was oddly staring at something on the floor. Looking down, Layla noticed that it was a blood trail… but after examining it for a moment, Layla Looked back at Mary, to see a shivering girl with blood shot eyes! 

With chattering teeth, Mary fist began to bleed, and she suddenly turned around and swiped her chain blade against a tree! While roaring loudly into the jungle forest! Needing to calm her down quickly, Layla grabbed her by the hand and embraced her, while slowly patting her head. While holding onto Mary tightly, Layla began to sing sweet church music that she somehow knew by heart. 

But while she sang, Layla thought to herself: 

{sigh… she's just liked a child… but man, since when did I know to sing? Much less knowing any church music from Warhammer! And this voice… damn! I do have to give it to the god who sent me here at least he got his priorities straight and gave me a great singing voice!} 

After about five minutes of continues singing did Mary finally regain her composure 

{Ah! Did you finally calm down… Mary} said Layla 

[yes… sorry you had to do that… it's just... This is why I didn't want to go hunting… though this is something you should already know… right Layla.] 

While nervously scratching the back of her neck, Layla quickly said: 

{of course… the blood must bring back awful memories... Sorry I forgot.} 

Hopeing her quick lie worked, Layla turned around to pick up her bag, while also making sure that Mary couldn't see her face. But while she thought she got away with the lie, Mary looked at her back through squinted eyes and began to question Layla in her mind.  8
