The tweets and chirps of the morning birds and sloshing sound of the sea interrupted Kais slumber. He was never one to wake up from slight noises like these, but today, they seemed louder than usual and more disturbing.
Kai fluttered his eyes open and unconsciously reached out to the space beside him. As expected, it was already empty and had gone cold.
'He left earlier than usual today.' Kai thought and let out a small sigh. He felt the back of his eyes sting with welling tears, this time, he didn't bother trying to hold them back like last night. As he laid upright, he let the warm salty liquid trickle down the side of his cheek as he sobbed silently, soaking the pillow beneath his head.
What was different with him? Back then, Aiden would be the one to wake him up and serve him breakfast in bed... most times, they'd take a bath together, and Aiden would ask him to help him get ready for the days work. But now, he was left alone every morning.
