Chapter 17 : Failure

For a wild moment, I was sure that he knew the truth. He knew that I was the spy. I had done nothing but bring my own death closer to me, when that had been the one thing that I was trying to save myself from.

Varon rushed toward me, and I closed my eyes, bracing myself for the impact. I was sure that he was going to tear me apart with his claws. That the first time I would see him in wolf form would be like this, as he attacked me and ripped me apart for treason.

But the attack never came. His arms came around my middle as he scooped me up over his shoulder. I opened an eye to see that I was being taken out of the house.

“What?” I huffed, even as he hauled me up further, hurrying along the path. “I can run! What’s going on?”

I didn’t expect him to stop. I didn’t even expect him to listen to what I was saying. But he did.

“All right,” Varon said simply, putting me down gently. “Come with me, we’re going to the Alpha Hall.”
