Chapter 26 : Ultimatum to the Spy

The next morning, at the first available chance, I snuck out of the house and headed to the place where Daejong and I would meet, and waited for him to come to me. He must have spies watching me too, otherwise, how would he know when I was here waiting for him?

I felt stupid that I hadn’t thought of it before, but it was too late to worry about that now.

“I can’t meet you in person any longer,” I told him firmly as soon as he showed up in front of me. I knew how to deal with him now. My child's life depended on it. “Varon has assigned more guards and lady maids to me. It's becoming impossible to sneak away. How else can I send you information?”

Daejong didn’t answer for a moment, his face blank as he looked at me. But after a moment, he nodded.

“Yes,” he said simply. “You’re right, it's better for the both of us. We can use paper. I’ll send some to you.”
