Chapter 7: The Grimaldis
*Jack*
I bit back a growl as I opened the passenger side door for Mia, keeping my arm across the back of her shoulders until she moved to slip into the car. I shut the door and locked it before coming around to the driver’s side.
I gripped the steering wheel hard in my hands, watching as the scumbag who had harassed Mia drove off. I narrowed my eyes, memorizing his license plate easily, and shuddered inwardly at the thought of what could have happened had I not been there. I glanced at Mia, who was staring at me.
“Are you alright?” I asked her, realizing my voice still sounded rough with anger.
She nodded, her eyes rounding. “Thank you. That guy was being a real pain.”
I chuckled darkly at the understatement. “He was being a little more than that.” I shuddered once again at the image of Mia Grimaldi’s body in a ditch somewhere, beaten and used.
