Chapter 24: Am I a Good Dancer?
*Jack*
I stood outside of the bar, waiting for Mia. I tried not to fidget too much, but I felt on edge. I was thrilled when she agreed to meet me, but I didn’t want to mess things up between us again. I didn’t think I could stand it if I had to watch her walk out on me again.
The Fendley case was going nowhere. We had been grasping at straws with Lucia Grimaldi, and looking into her had gotten us nowhere. The only leads we had left were all tied up with the Carmini mob, and that was unlikely to go anywhere. Abigail Fendley hadn’t been a target of any capacity.
Perhaps Theo had been right to start giving up on the case. It was only a matter of time before the precinct closed the case again.
When that happened, I might not ever see Mia again.
I would enjoy the time we had together for now.
“Jack!”
I looked up and smiled. Mia was hurrying toward me. I tried not to give her a slow look up and down when she stopped in front of me.
