Chapter 19: You’re Home Early
*Mia*
Michael wrapped his arms around me and I laughed and returned the hug with everything I had. A surge of emotions ran through me as soon as I saw him through the glass windows.
Michael had been a part of my life since I was a teenager, since my first year at Julliard. I met him when NYC Ballet sent him to Julliard to speak with aspiring ballet dancers. He taught a class where he gave us pointers on auditioning for roles, and even coached each of us one-on-one on developing our own styles.
We became fast friends during my last year at Julliard. He said he was immediately drawn to the way I dance, comparing me to a doe. I originally thought that the comparison was an insult, but Michael later explained that he believed the doe to be the most graceful of creatures. Right before I graduated, he tracked me down at Juilliard and recruited me to join the NYC Ballet, effective as soon as I graduated.
