Chapter 21: Interviewing My Half-Brother


I wasn’t at all shocked that I had trouble concentrating at the precinct the next day. Thoughts of Mia Grimaldi flooded my mind all through the day. One minute, I would be focused on a file or on a phone call, the next I was seeing nothing except Mia’s soft skin and deep eyes. 


I allowed myself to smile briefly when I remembered the way she fell asleep against my chest the night before, murmuring my name in her sleep. I had tucked her against my still-naked body, pressing a kiss to her forehead before I too fell asleep. 


She didn’t wake up when I got up for work the next morning. I frowned in concern before leaving, lightly tracing the bags beneath her eyes. She had been completely rundown when she first started staying with me, but she was looking a lot better.
