Daniel's P.O.V
I stormed away from the meeting hall, feeling a mix of sadness and anger. I muttered to myself, frustrated with Linda for not waiting and mad at myself for being too slow to meet her before the ceremony. I blamed myself for asking her to let go when she wanted to fight for our love. Jake, my wolf, shared my frustration. We had loved Linda since childhood, even though she wasn't our destined mate.
"Why couldn't she just hold on a little longer?" I growled through gritted teeth, my voice laced with irritation.
"Daniel, calm down," Jake urged in a soothing tone, its voice resonating in my head. "She made her choice, and we must respect it. Our mate will come when the time is right."
I shook my head, stubborn and unwavering. "No! I don't want anyone else but Linda, Linda is the only woman I'll ever be able to love. I won't let her slip away."
"But going against the alpha alone would be reckless," Jake warned, concerned for their safety. "Think about the consequences. We could lose Linda, Emily, and ourselves."
Feeling helpless and defeated, I fell to my knees. "What do I do now, Jake? How do I fight for my love and win her back?" I cried out in pain.
"We need to calm down and come up with a better plan," Jake advised, trying to be the voice of reason.
I knelt on the ground, my emotions overwhelming me. Jake's words offered a glimmer of hope. I wiped away my tears, standing up with renewed determination. "You're right, Jake. I won't let despair consume me. I'll fight for what I want."
With that resolve fueling my every step, I took a deep breath and let the transformation overtake me. My bones cracked and shifted, my body morphing into that of a powerful wolf. The night air embraced my fur as I stood tall, ready to run.
I ran into the woods, abandoning everything as my paws pounded against the earth, I raced through the thick trees. The moonlight guided my path as I ran, my mind focused on one goal—reclaiming Linda, the woman I loved. The images of her being mated to the alpha fueled my strength.
Hours passed as I raced through the wilderness, my breath coming in heavy pants. My legs grew tired, and exhaustion crept upon me. I decided to rest briefly before heading home aware that Emily must be worried sick.
In the distance, I heard the faint voices of Marcel and Toby, my best friends calling my name. With a surge of relief, I followed their voices, my pace quickening.
When I got to where they were, their concerned expressions shifted to relief as they saw me. Marcel, with his calming presence, approached me cautiously. "Daniel, where have you been? We've been searching for you everywhere," he said as he offered me his jacket to cover up.
I took a moment to catch my breath before responding, "Guys, let's go for a drink," my words rushed.
Toby's face showed concern as he asked, "What happened? Marcel told me you left the ceremony early. This isn't like you, Daniel. What's going on? We tried to reach you through the mind link, but you shut everyone out. We went to your house, and Emily was pacing anxiously..."
"How's Em? Has she eaten dinner? Is she fine?" I interrupted him anxiously.
Marcel studied me, trying to make sense of the situation.
"I promise, guys, I'm fine," I reassured them, managing a faint smile. "I'll explain everything over drinks. But first, let me mind-link Emily and let her know I'm safe."
"Em, Em, are you there?", I say through the mind link.
"God, Daniel! Where in heaven's name have you been?, do you know how worried sick I've been? what happened to you? why did you shut everyone out from the mind linking you? do you want me to have a heart attack this young?". She yelled through the mind link, her voice laced with concern and fake anger.
I chuckled softly, comforted by Emily's concern. "I'm fine, princess. I just went for a run in the woods," he reassured her. "Have you eaten dinner? I don't think I'll be back until early morning."
Emily's tone softened slightly, still laced with worry. "What happened? Where are you going?"
"Nothing big Em, just going for drinks with the boys. They're here with me now," I explained, hoping to ease her concerns.
"Oh, alright. That's good. It's important to have your friends around you at a time like this. Don't worry about me and go have fun. I'll see you when you get back," Emily said, her voice filled with understanding.
"Thanks, Em. You're the best," I said gratefully, feeling a sense of warmth wash over him. "Take care, and I'll talk to you soon."
"Bye, Daniel," Emily replied, her voice filled with affection.
"Everything's alright now. Emily understands. Let's head to the pub." I told my friends.
We made our way to our usual pub in Marcel's car which he parked at the entrance of the woods, the sound of laughter and music growing louder with each step. We entered the bustling pub, finding a corner booth where they could have some privacy amidst the lively atmosphere. Settling into our seats, Toby waved to our friendly bartender and ordered our favorite drinks. The dim lighting and the rhythmic beat of music added to the ambiance of the place.
As the drinks arrived, we raised our glasses in a toast. "To friendship and the moments that keep us going," I said, a glimmer of gratitude in my eyes.
"Cheers!" Toby and Marcel echoed, clinking their glasses together.
we sipped our drinks and engaged in casual conversation, grateful for the distraction it provided. I wasn't quite ready to delve into the depths of my emotions just yet.
Toby took a gulp of his beer and turned to Marcel with a smile playing on his lips, "So, what's been happening at work lately?"
"Ah, the usual, running errands for the alpha and dealing with a few minor issues. Oh, and let's not forget the pleasure of tolerating Daniel's constant presence," he replied, teasingly nudging me.
I mockingly scowled at Marcel. "Hey now, I'm not that bad. You guys love having me around," I retorted, playfully defending myself.
Toby joined in on the banter, his laughter filling the air. "Well, he's got a point there, Marcel. We can't deny that Daniel brings some excitement to our lives."
Grinning, I playfully punched Toby's arm, appreciating the light-heartedness of the moment.
Noticing our empty glasses, I motioned for the bartender to bring us another round. I caught the surprised glances exchanged between my friends, but I brushed them off. Tonight, I wanted to drown my sorrows and numb the ache in my heart.
As we continued our conversation, the drinks flowed more freely, and I indulged myself, drinking to the point of intoxication.
Woah, woah, Daniel, slow down. You're already quite drunk," Toby cautioned, concern evident in his voice.
Slurring my words, I laughed dismissively. "M..meee? Drunnnkk? Nah, my…my alcohol tolerance is through the roof. These few bottles won't do much to me."
Suddenly, a wave of sadness hit me and I began to cry uncontrollably.
"Daniel, what's wrong?" Marcel asked, worry etched on his face.
Through hiccuping sobs, I managed to reply, "M-my Linda... she's gonne, gone, gone. The alpha... he stole her from me."
Shock and disbelief washed over Toby and Marcel as they exchanged bewildered glances. "What?" they exclaimed simultaneously.
Marcel glanced around nervously and placed a hand over my mouth, attempting to silence me. But I couldn't be silenced. I wanted the world to know the injustice inflicted upon me, the cruel act of snatching away the woman I had loved all my life.
I pushed Marcel away and clumsily climbed onto the table, raising my voice for all to hear. "Turn off the music! E..Everyone, I…I have an..nouncement to make," I slurred, gulping my drink. "The alpha..." Before I could finish my sentence, a wave of nausea overcame me, and I doubled over vomiting.
Amidst the disgusted murmurs from the crowd, I heard comments like, "Isn't that the beta? Why is he making a fool of himself?"
Toby and Marcel rushed to my aid, pulling me away from the humiliating scene, their concern evident in their eyes.
As we stumbled toward the car, their words faded into a distant murmur. My mind swirled with a jumble of thoughts and regrets, a whirlwind of emotions that threatened to consume me entirely.
Driving away into the night, the world passed by in a blur, each streetlight a flickering reminder of the mess I had become. The weight of my sorrow lingered, while my intoxicated mind buzzed with a thousand and one plans on how to reclaim the love that has been unjustly stolen from me.
