I'm weak

"I often wonder if I am a loser or not". This is the question that haunts me every morning when I open my eyes and every night when I close them.

The world has changed a lot in the past ninety years. People have developed special abilities that make them different from ordinary people and these people are called the chosen.

They attend special schools to learn how to control their powers and abilities. Some of them will be selected to participate in the universal tournament, a prestigious competition among the chosen. I am one of the chosen, but I'm also the weakest one in my school.

My ability is to manipulate electricity, but I don't know how it works yet. My name is Tinashe Rezuya, and I'm twenty years old and this is my story.

"Hey Tinashe, wake up, man. Look, that girl who broke your heart is coming into our class," my friend Dwayne said.

"Oh, really? What does she want from me?' I asked him with a bitter tone as I glanced at her. Her name is Jane, and I once tried to ask her out, but she turned me down.

She said she would think about it, but I guess she never did. I heard she was dating another guy in my class who pretended to be my friend, but he stabbed me in the back.

She walked into the room with a smile on her face and greeted the guy next to her with a "Hey Dane, how are you?" and then just looked at me with a cold and disdainful expression, as if I was nothing to her.

I felt a surge of anger and pain in my chest, as if someone had punched me hard. I tried to act like I didn't care, but it was obvious that she still had an effect on me.

"What's up with you?" my friend Dwayne asked, sensing my mood.

"Nothing, dude," I snapped, wishing he would leave me alone.

He chuckled and shook his head. "Come on, man, we both know you're bummed out because no girl in this school gives you a second glance." He glanced at Jane, who was sitting across the cafeteria.

"Especially not her. You really thought you had a chance with the strongest girl in our grade?

That's hilarious, bro." He smirked and nudged me. "Ugh, whatever. I'm going to the training room," I said, getting up from my seat.

He followed me and kept teasing me all the way to the corridor. I ignored him and his stupid jokes. We reached the training room and saw a stunning girl inside.

She had long white hair and blue eyes that sparkled like gems.

"Wow, she's the new girl from the Void family. She has those amazing lashes that are totally natural.

She has force-related abilities," he whispered in awe.

"How do you know all that?" I asked, surprised by his knowledge.

"I saw her in class today. She just transferred here," he said, scratching his nose. "…and she's very powerful. Don't even think about approaching her."

"Ha-ha, you're joking, right?" I laughed. "I'm the bottom of the barrel," I said, flashing a cheeky grin.

"Really?" she asked, interrupting us whilst tilting her head.

"Yeah, he's the weakest link in this school, so you'll be bored to tears with him," my friend said to Ashyene.

"Who are you to judge?" she snapped.

"What?" we both said, taken aback.

"Who gives you the right to label people as strong or weak?" she continued.

"Uh, the school," we both answered.

"No, don't let others dictate your fate. You can be anything you want," she said, turning her back on us.

"I wasn't born strong, but I worked hard enough to become who I am now," she added over her shoulder."

Hmph, let's spar," my friend challenged.

"Oh, really?" she asked him, spinning around.

"Yeah, let's go. I'm the fifth ace in this school," he bragged, charging at her. She looked at him as if he was insane.

"Okay, let's do i…" She didn't finish her sentence, as my friend attacked her without warning.

The earth where he stood shattered, and he moved at a speed that was very hard to see. He aimed a kick at her head, but she blocked it with ease.

She smiled and said, "That's very impressive, but…" Before she could finish her sentence, a loud and eerie metallic sound echoed in the room.

"Damn, she's using it," Dwayne muttered. She crouched slightly, ready to strike. I watched her in awe as she dashed from her spot to his face in a flash.

He barely dodged her and activated his ability: heavy metal. His ability allowed him to transform his body into metal and to conjure some metal rods. He pumped his whole body with energy to boost his speed and strength. I looked at him, knowing he was serious now, and then he sprang to attack her.

He summoned five metal rods hovering beside him. He launched them at her, but as they neared her, they halted.

"What the hell, bro? That's your fastest attack," I yelled at him. "That's because her abilities are just too broken," Dwayne snapped as he got closer to her with his attack.

He wielded a long metal rod and aimed to hit her with it. He swung it at her and she grabbed his rods that were still floating and melted them into a spear-like weapon in an instant. Dwayne was shocked.

"You can control metal too?" he exclaimed with a bewildered look.

Ashylene then disappeared from our sight for a split second and then Dwayne was hit heavily by the spear on top the head.

"Shit, what was that? She just vanished!" I shouted in astonishment. Dwayne collapsed to the ground, unconscious. She then stopped and glanced at me before I could ask if he was okay.

She said to me, "Don't worry, I only hit him with a force he can handle."

She then lifted the spear slightly and the same magnetic noise came out again. The spear turned red and disintegrated due to the heat.

"Hey, hey, what are your abilities really?" I asked.

She looked at me and sighed. "I guess it won't hurt to tell you," she said as she approached me and whispered, "My ability is called electromagnetic void and the void is a trait shared by everyone in our family with abilities. "

She then turned and walked away to exit the training room, but before she left, she said to me, "I don't know why you are hiding it, but I won't butt in."

She said as she left. Now the question that lingered in my mind was: does she know?

I rushed to my friend Dwayne to help him get up and I saw he was still breathing but unconscious. I carried him to the nurse's office.

"What happened?" the nurse asked me as she tended to Dwayne.

"He got hurt and beaten by Ashylene," I answered her as I sat on a chair.

"Why would he pick a fight with someone like her?" She said with a sigh.

"He's strong, so he wanted to challenge her," I said to her as I looked at him.

"She's currently the strongest youth in her family and she has abilities that allow her to do almost anything and see everything," She said as she applied some wrapped bandages around his head.

"Does she have some special eyes or something?" I asked as I was amazed by what she said.

"No, it's her ability, it's complicated. I'll have to explain it to you later," the nurse said as she finished wrapping bandages on him.

"Oh, is he okay?" I asked her as I stared at him.

"Yes, you can wait here. I think he will wake up in fifteen minutes," she said as she packed up her stuff.

"Okay, I'll just come back later," I said as I stood up to leave.

"Thank you very much. I'll be back soon." I left her office, thinking, "Was she serious?

Does she know who I am and what my abilities are? This is going to be very interesting." I grinned.
