Awakening

A young boy opens his eyes, yawning tiredly before he smells something coming from downstairs. Jumping out of bed and onto his feet, he excitedly rushes out of his room, and down some steps before making his way into the kitchen area.

"Mom, is breakfast done, I'm ready to eat!" The boy shouted as he ran next to his mother.

"Calm down Eugene. Breakfast is almost ready. How about you set the table so we can eat after I'm done."

The scent of grilled fish wafted through the air, as the porridge was being made, and drinks were being prepared. After setting the table Eugene watched in his seat as the fish cooked slowly, his mouth watering at the smell.

With everything now finished cooking the woman set the food on wooden plates and bowls before bringing them to the table. Digging into the food, Eugene finished eating in minutes.

"Thanks Mom, that was filling. I'm heading out now." Eugene told her, as he jumped up from his seat and headed toward the door.

"Be careful outside! Watch out for dragons, and be back before dark!" His mom yelled as he raced outside.

It's been almost ten years since I was given a second chance at life. It took me a while to figure it out, but I've been reborn into "How to Train Your Dragon".

I don't know why, but my parents somehow ended up on Berk. They were accepted into the tribe, and unfortunately, they are still fighting with the dragons. It's not like I won't kill a dragon, after all, I have people I need to protect, but it is a bit irritating to have dragons attacking the village almost daily.

Since this isn't a movie or cartoon series, trying to meet those unrealistic goals of not harming a dragon was rather stupid. Plus I doubt everything is going to be the same. And I was mostly correct in that interpretation.

Still, the children of Berk are usually trained for combat at a young age, so I guess it helped that I've been learning fighting skills and training with weapons. I've also been helping out around the forge, mostly to learn how to forge things that will be useful for me in the future. Anyway, that's enough monologuing.

As I continued to walk around the village I saw a young girl with brown hair, a gray shirt, and leather pants sitting on a staircase, reading a book. Smiling, I approached her, waving to get her attention.

"Hey, Hicca whatcha reading?" I say, crouching down next to her, leaning over her shoulder.

"Hey Eugene, just reading about dragons. Dad wants me to help Gobber with the forge, but I'm more interested in killing a dragon. Imagine all the fame I'd get from defeating one." She told him, puffing out her chest.

Chuckling a bit, I grabbed her hand before pulling her off the stairs. "Yeah, yeah, enough reading. Come on, let's go have some fun." I said, running from her as she shouted after me.

Eugene and Hicca lay on the ground, arms and legs sprawled out on the grass, as they breathed heavily. Exhausted from running around they slowly sit up before Eugene turns to Hicca.

"Hey… wanna get… something to eat?" He wheezed out to Hicca.

"Sure… let's go!" Hicca jumped up before running off. Eugene groaned, before following after her.

After eating, they said their goodbyes, as Eugene headed toward the arena for a little combat training. Crossing a bridge he opened the gates, walking through as he heard strained grunts in the arena.

'Hmm? I didn't think I'd find anyone else training at this time of day.' Eugene thought as he walked toward the source of the noise, he found a young girl with a brown tunic and brown leather pants.

"Oh hey Astrid, you're also here to train?" He asked her as he looked around for a weapon to use.

"Yeah, just trying to polish my axe-wielding." She said, throwing an axe at a painted target.

"Well, I'll let you get back to that then." Taking a sword, he began to practice his swings and technique on a dummy.

It was now dusk as Eugene breathed heavily, exhausted from his sword practice. He decided it was time to finally head home before his parents got worried. Waving goodbye to Astrid he leaves the arena, walking through the village as he makes his way back home.

Entering his house he saw his parents sitting and talking. Greeting them, he quickly made his way to his room, before sitting on the bed, mumbling to himself.

"There are so many different dragons to tame, but which one is right for me? Maybe I should tame a Skrill? Those dragons are strong in their own right and can basically match a Night Fury." He gave an exhausted sigh. There was so much to do. With enough thinking for one day, he rolled over into his bed, closed his eyes, and drifted off to sleep.

[The Next Day]

A large burly man stood outside with two younger kids, teaching them the basic methods of forging, making, and repairing weapons, etc.

"Ugh, why can't we learn how to kill dragons?" One of them whined as they began to slouch on a barrel.

"Because Hicca, not everything is about killing dragons. Now focus on what Gobber is trying to teach us."

"Yeah, but-" Before she could respond she was cut off by Gobber shouting at her, making her tense slightly.

"Hicca! Are you listening?!"

"Y-yeah I am." She turned her head back to Gobber, giving a nervous laugh as he glared at her.

"Come on Hicca, let's just get through this lesson and then we can play or do whatever." Eugene told her, refocusing on what Gobber was teaching.

"Fine, but only for you Eugene." Pouting, she crosses her arms before going back to paying attention.

"That was the most boring thing I've ever sat through." Hicca hissed as she walked with a slight slouch.

"Oh come on it wasn't so bad… well other than Gobber almost burning our hair off but other than that it was fine." Eugene said as he ruffled his curls with his hands.

"Ah, whatever, come on, let's play for a little bit." Running off, Hicca laughs as she runs from Eugene as he chases after her while shouting.

"Mom, Dad, I'm back!" Eugene shouts from the door.

"Eugene, help your father set the table, dinner's almost ready." His mother called out.

Going to the table he helped his dad set the table as they prepared to eat. Finishing up the table preparations they all sat around, grabbing food from the center while conversing with one another.

"So, how was your day Eugene?" His dad inquired, wondering how his son's day was spent.

"Oh, you know, just some forging lessons with Gobber and playing with Hicca." He said as he stuffed his face with food.

"Oh, the chief's daughter? You two would look so cute together." His mom chuckled, as she teased her son.

Eugene coughed as he slightly choked on his food before fully swallowing. "Mom! Stop! It's not like that!" Eugene yelled.

Laughter erupted from the two parents as they witnessed their son's reaction. Laughing and joking, dinner was over at a moment's notice. Walking to his bedroom, Eugene closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.
