The Truth

"That thing controls them, like a colony of ants. The dragons are the workers and it's the queen." Hicca says as Eugene lands Indra back at the cave.

"The question is how do we get rid of it?" Eugene said as they hop off the dragon. "We could tell your dad, bu-"

"Are you crazy?!" Hicca yelled. "We can't tell my father about this, no... he'll absolutely flip out about this!"

"I know, I know, but I don't think the two of us alone are going to be able to move that thing away from Berk." Eugene stated as he turned toward Hicca who had covered her face with her hands.

Sighing, Eugene walked up to her, grabbing her hands away from her face before calmly stating, "Don't worry about it, we'll figure something out. Let's not rush it."

Taking a deep breath Hicca calmed down as she agreed with him before responding. "What about the test tomorrow? We still haven't thought of a plan..."

"Eh, I'll figure something out."

"Eugene! Eugene! Eugene!" The crowd of people chanted his name, only quieting down so Stoick could make his speech. "Well, I can show my face in public again!" He joked as the crowd laughed before he quieted them down once again.

"First things first I want to congratulate my daughter on placing second in training. If someone had told me that in just a few short weeks, Hicca would go from being, well... Hicca, to placing second in dragon training... Well, I would've tied him to a mast and shipped him off for fear he'd gone mad. Yes! And you know it! But here we are. And no one's more surprised… or more proud than I am." He said proudly to the crowd.

"Now onto business. Today is Eugene's day. Today, he becomes a Viking. Today, he becomes one of us!! Stoick yelled as the crowd erupted in cheers once more.

As Eugene was about to enter the arena he was stopped by Hicca. "Please, at least try and show them that we can make peace with the dragons."

"I'll try." He said as he walked next to Gobber.

"Go get 'em." Gobber told him, shutting the gate behind him. As he walked out into the open the crowd grew louder applauding his arrival.

As he walks further into the arena he grabs a sword and shield from the weapon stand before getting into a fighting stance. "I'm ready."

The crowd grew quieter as the gates that held the dragon began lifting, as soon as the mechanism lifting the gates was up the dragon burst out covered in flames and it began crawling all over the arena, firing random shots at the bystanders before finally arriving in front of Eugene.

The dragon slowly approached Eugene as he slowly backed away from it. 'I seriously hope I don't regret this.' Eugene thought as he put down his weapons.

"What is he doing?" Stoick asked no one in particular, as murmurs in the crowd grew as they watched Eugene talk to the dragon.

"It's ok, it's ok, you don't have to worry. I'm a friend. I'm not like the rest of them."

Gasps of shock ranged throughout the arena as they began questioning if Eugene had gone mad. Stoick, shocked at what he was hearing, began rising out of his chair.

"Stop the fight."

"Wait! Everyone needs to watch this. They are not like we think they are. We don't always have to kill them." He said, stretching his hand toward the Monstrous Nightmare.

"I said, stop the fight!" Stoick yelled, furiously slamming his hammer on the dome of the arena.

Hearing the loud noise the Monstrous Nightmare snapped at Eugene as it went on the attack, attempting to burn him alive. Dodging out of the way Eugene attempted to grab a shield to block the flames only for the dragon to jump in front of him blocking his way.

"Eugene!" Hicca yelled desperately as she looked for a way to get inside. Looking to the right she sees an axe that she can use. Grabbing the axe she wedges the gate open before slipping inside.

Eugene continued to dodge the dragon's flames, as the dragon was closing in on him a hammer abruptly hit the dragon in the face. Turning around the dragon saw Hicca standing with her arm out before it began attacking her next.

"This way!" Stoick yelled from the side as he lifted the gate.

Immediately the two teens begin racing toward the gate, as the dragon continues to chase them. Eugene was the first to make it, turning around to see Hicca just barely at the exit before a blast of fire was shot in front of her cutting her off as she had to turn around to avoid being hit.

Running from the gate the dragon took the chase to pounce on her trapping her beneath its feet. Before anyone could do anything a loud screech was heard before they saw a black dragon dive toward the arena's dome blowing it open before attacking the Monstrous Nightmare.

The two dragons continued to battle with each other scratching and biting at the other. Slapping the dragon away, Toothless kept the dragon away from Hicca, as it finally backed down, screeching before running away

"Toothless you need to leave. Go! Get out of here!" Hicca pleaded to the dragon, as the villagers began to swarm him. "C'mon! Leave!" She shouts.

Stoick, who was watching from the sidelines, grabbed an axe and began to rush toward Toothless.

"Stoick, no!" Eugene tried to stop him, but his shouts fell on deaf ears as he continued to race toward the dragon.

Toothless seeing this growled as he swatted a few Vikings away from him before pouncing onto Stoick, pinning him to the ground.

"Toothless stop!" Hicca yelled as Toothless began charging a plasma blast. "Stop! I said stop!" Hicca screamed again before the dragon finally stopped, turning toward her in confusion.

"Get him!" One of the Vikings yelled as the rest followed suit in tackling Toothless and pinning him to the ground.

"Put it with the others." Stoick said as he got up from the ground shaking himself off, as he stared at the dragon in anger.

"No, no! Don't hurt him! Just please don't hurt him." Hicca pleads as she tries to run toward Toothless only to be blocked by Eugene who shakes his head.

[Great Hall]

Hicca and Eugene were now in the Great Hall enduring the wrath of Stoick as he began shouting at them.

"I should have known. I should have seen the signs."

"Dad…?"

"We had a deal!"

"I know we did, but that was before… aw this... this isn't right."

Turning to Eugene Stoick begins bombarding him with questions. "So everything that you did in the ring? A trick? A lie?"

"Not all of it was a lie, we just didn't tell you the full truth because of the history between us and the dragons." Eugene firmly stated.

"It was my fault dad, don't take this out on him, be mad at me, but just don't hurt Toothless." Hicca pleaded as she stepped in front of Eugene.

"The dragon? Is that what you're worried about? Not the people you almost killed?!"

"He was just protecting me! He's not a threat."

"They've killed hundreds of us!"

"And we've killed thousands of them!"

As they continued to argue, Eugene interrupted as he spoke to Stoick. "They only raid us because they have to, they'll be killed if they don't bring enough food back with them. The dragon on their island is like nothing you've ever…" Before he could continue Stoick interrupted him as he only heard one thing.

"Their island?! So you've been to the nest?" Stoick asked as he got closer to Eugene.

"Did he say nest?" Hicca said as she tried to get in between them.

"How did y'all find it?!" He demanded with an impatient tone.

"What? No… we didn't. Only a dragon can find the island."

Stoick in a shock of realization began walking toward the door. Realizing what her father was about to do Hicca desperately tried to stop him.

"No, no. Dad, no! It's not what you think! You don't know what you're up against! It's like nothing you've ever seen! Please! I promise you that you won't win this one! For once in your life, would you please just listen to me!" She shouted as she tried grabbing his arm.

Shoving her off Stoick in a solemn tone replied to her. "You've thrown your lot in with them. You're not a Viking. You're not my daughter."

"She's just trying to save your life. Why can't you see that?" Eugene said, angered at what his ignorance would cause.

"You wouldn't understand. You both are far too young to. Ready the ships!" Stoick said as he exited the Great Hall, slamming the door.

Before walking to the docks, Stoick staggered back, realizing the mistake he just made before he shook his head and continued moving.
