Exorcism

Later that night

"Good luck, your holiness"

Lance's father wished the priestess good luck. Beside him, his wife Laura held on to him tightly, seemingly scared.

The priestess had told them stories of how ghosts and spirit would mutilate, and dismember people in their sleep, leaving her a bit shaken.

The nobles didn't really bother themselves about things like these, so stories like these would tend to frighten them.

"The Lord is by my side, I do not need luck"

The priestess maintained a cold expression even now. She would have to do her job no matter the circumstances, and the feelings of these nobles were inconsequential.

She then picked up a pair of chains tied to an old round cauldron with steam emitting from its covers

"The octagon has eight sides and so does the world, the world was born from 8, from it, we came and to the eight we will return"

The priest started chanting an ancient scripture, their church was the octagon Church. They believed that their god is in an eternal battle with demons, and spirits, so they too had to fight against them.

She opened the door and slowly walked into the Naldir families main courtyard

The way the Naldir family household was designed, it had the main home close to the gate, and several other buildings around its sides, leaving a massive courtyard paved with concrete in front

As the priestess stepped onto the concrete ground, her chanting became louder with still her swinging the small cauldron around.

Soon, Her 'ritual' began attracting the attention of the staff in the household. They too, were aware that the priestess was around, and they were waiting eagerly to see the spirit that had been hunting the house for so long.

With every word that came out of the priestess's mouth, the atmosphere became tenser and tenser, it felt like she was summoning an evil spirit from the depths of night

Especially with the chained cauldron movements, it was in a way hypnotic. She was clearly the real deal, so they paid close attention to her every move.

But as it continued for about 30 minutes, the priestess herself began losing confidence. She knew that a basic summoning shouldn't take as much time as this was.

"Looks like they are just a bunch of horny bastards"

With an annoyed look on her face, the priestess muttered. There was only one explanation as to why the spirit hadn't left the shadows. It meant there were no spirits.

The staff of the household were simply very horny people who sort to cover their shame by blaming the devil.

Sadly, this was the case half the time.

And this disappointed the priest, she had hoped that there really was a spirit here, so she could vanquish it and receive a reward from the church. Even increasing her standing amongst her peers wasn't off the table if she accomplished that, but it was clearly a hoax.

However, as she was about to give up, the sound of rustling resounded from a Bush in the distance. Following that, a figure dashed away from behind the bush.

"Rustle!!!"

Immediately after noticing this movement, the priestess who was about to leave dashed after it with all her might.

"Woosh!!"

The staff and Lance's parents also noticed this and were shocked and relieved by this turn of events. The priestess was about to get to work. Right now she was heading for the forest in the far side of the household.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Inside the forest,

there were tall trees all over with barks as solid as stone. The general vegetation seemed to be minimal, making the chase a little easier.

However, the problem with the forest was that it was so damn quiet that it sent chills down her spine, but the priestess persevered. Not because of anything but because of the general behavior of the spirit.

Immediately after sighting her, it took off. This indicated that it was a weak spirit, else it would have attacked her where she stood.

Naturally, she was happy about how the whole thing was playing out. All the signs indicated that even though this spirit was weak, it was not too weak. The reason for this was because it was able to resist her summons for so long.

"Clang!!"

After running for a while, the sound of a bell rang then, the priestess stopped in the middle of the forest.

She had lost the spirit

But she wasn't disheartened, it was all part of the job. She pulled out a herbal powder from her pouch and tossed it into the cauldron. In the next second, the steam that was previously emitting from the cauldron turned red.

This move was to attract the spirit back to her, the church knew which herbal powders were attractive to spirit and the one she had used before was like water compared to what she had just used now

The difference was like the difference between water and alcohol

Once the spirit rares its head, she would seal it

,,,,,,,,,,,

Meanwhile, Behind a bunch of rocks inside the forest, three figures could be seen crouching. Behind them was another figure, but this one was 7 feet (2.13 m) tall.

"Should we release the kraken?"

One of the figures cloaked in darkness asked with a sly look on his face. He clearly enjoyed seeing the priestess run around like a headless rat.

"Not yet"

As the reply came, a purple gas began emitting from the back of one of the figures, the funny thing was….the others didn't seem to notice this phenomenon even though it was happening before their very eyes
