My eyes widening in terror. I felt someone grab the back of my shirt, and I was yanked back as it's hand came down on the spot where I had been standing. Swiping clean through the stone wall of the crevasse. Taking a massive chunk out of it in the process. I started pouring mana into my bone dagger.
It was bigger, and should be able to hold more mana. More mana meant a bigger explosion. I threw the dagger into the massive creature's arm. Somehow it ended up in the creatures arm blade first. I mentally patted myself on the back for succeeding at throwing the blade into my enemy.
Then I sprinted away. I didn't sprint far. Turning around once I heard the explosion. The beast wailed again as it's arm separated from it's body. The wail hurt my ears.
I didn't care as long as I could stand I was going to do as much damage as possible. The creature started grabbing up zombies with it's other arm, and slamming them into it's body so it's little arms could grip their bodies. Those little mouths started going to work. Threads of flesh shot from it's stump, and reconnected to it's arm. It grabbed another few zombies, and slammed them into it's body in another spot.
Those mouths went to work. It was eating to heal itself. It's arm came back up to reconnect to the stump, and once it's arm was reattached it started walking down the crevasse towards us. I had way to many arrows at the moment, and it was pretty obvious the creature wouldn't be able to get out of the crevasse easily with such a massive slow body. At least I was hoping I was right.
I started firing arrows at the creature. Aiming for the main body. I only had enough mana to charge one more arrow so I couldn't waste it. I had so many arrows since I'd gone a little craft crazy. Two hundred arrows would go a long way.
I'd ended up with a second bundle after we'd killed a bunch of ghouls. The beast used it's tiny arms to pull out the arrows, and kept on healing itself with the zombies. The other three joined in hesitantly. The beast wasn't willing to leave the zombies since they were what was keeping it healed, but that wouldn't last forever. I was pretty sure that it would climb right out when it ran out of food to keep it in place.
I frowned as I continued to fire the arrows. I was glad that this was working for now. If there were any others still alive then they would get here eventually to help us with this when they realized the ghouls stopped coming. The creature wailed again, and I swore I could feel my ear drums vibrating dangerously close to popping. I winced, and my ears started to feel wet.
They were probably bleeding. My hearing became muffled, and my balance felt off. I didn't care. My ears would heal once I got out of here. I kept on firing arrows.
The creature reached for us. It wasn't that it was fast. The creature was simply so large that it covered a long distance with it's slow movements. Then we reached the end of the crevasse. The creature watched us with the eyes at the top of it's torso for a few seconds since we were out of it's reach.
I had fired somewhere around fifty arrows, and my arms felt as if I'd stomped all over them. I needed the break. I wasn't the only one. The others were pale, and worn out as well. The creature then turned around, and bent down.
My blood ran cold. This thing created the ghouls. If it wasn't wounded it was probably going to make more ghouls.
"We need to stop it," I ran up to the crevasse, and started firing arrows into it's back.
"What?" The guy with the sword exclaimed.
"If it's not healing it's creating more ghouls," I shouted, "How many of those quick scouts do you think the three of us can handle?"
I hoped the shouting would bring in any other survivors so they could help us. I noticed something else as I was firing the arrows. The number of zombies seemed to be a little less. This thing was eating up more of them then I realized. It must need a good amount of flesh to heal itself.
I remembered the four bodies it had needed just to create one scout. This meant we might have a chance. I let that hope fill me with energy. The creature wailed again. Reaching up to swipe at me as I jumped back.
It kept on shoving zombies into it's body with it's other hand. I got up, and fired arrows at that arm as two of my little group slashed at it's arm. I could feel my arms protesting against each, and every arrow. I kept on going. The beast pulled it's arm back into the crevasse.
I ran back up to the edge, and fired more arrows. I was glad I'd grabbed this better bow because my bone bow would have broken long ago. I kept on firing. My arms were shaking in pain from being over strained. I pretty much had a permanent frown pasted to my face as this point.
I was running out of strength. I wouldn't be able to keep this up for much longer. My arms were pretty much dead at this point. It was getting really hard for me to aim because my arms were shaking so bad. I was glad that I knew how to push past this pain.
I was good at working through such severe pain. I'd learned how to do that a long time ago. My mom's hurtful words coming to me at such an odd time. Don't be a baby. I've been through much worse.
