The practical exam had finished, there were some rather some rather remarkable combatants. But, what I was watching out for the most were humans, Elves or any of the other races. I was wary of those who had entered contacts with Demon's. Althought Demon's hadn't actually managed to begin their invasion in earnest, they had began to make their move.
Although some lower tier Demons roamed the planet, the truly strong Demon's were currently being held back by the world's will. The will of this world is a sort of overseer, it acts when life on this planet is at risk. And, its done two things to my knowledge.
The first, and foremost thing is that it's holding back the more powerful Demon's from coming into this world. And the next thing that it did was cause this world's protagonist's, Arthur's regression. In other words, the world itself had chosen Arthur as it's saviour.
As a result of the regression, the world expended a great amount of power.
And because of that, compared to what Arthur's first life was like, Demon's attacked much earlier after his regression. This isn't because the world 'ran out of power' but because it decided that if it held them off for any longer, too much power would be consumed. Though, I'm not what metric it used to determine what too much power was.
The power it had could replenish over time, but it wasn't exactly omnipotent. Meaning that it can't cause an infinite amount of regressions.
In any case, I'm sad to say I couldn't actually who was and who wasn't a Demonic Contactee. Those who entered a contract with Demon's were called Contractees. When entering a contract with a Demon, the Contractee became stronger in exchange for eternal servitude to the Demon.
Demon's could only have a single contractee at a time, so they were awfully picky with their contractees.
A Contractee would slowly but surely have their body's adjusted to bear Demonic Energy, though I wasn't sure on the exact changes. Of course, this was a very lengthy process. The stronger the Demon, the faster the process was. And until their body's had been fully corrupted, they would use Mana.
In other words, it's very difficult to tell who is and isn't a Contractee until it's too late. From what I remember, the contractees in the academy were all contacted with low level Demon's. This is honestly an advantage for the Demon's, as their spies would take a while to be discovered.
The Demon's... I don't know too much about their nature. All I know is that if they win, I die. That makes them my enemy, but, I don't exactly hold any animosity towards them. Arthur despises them, granted, he's fought them for God knows how many decades.
In any case, I need to prepare. I'm lacking in strength, money, allies and weapons. Strength and money are things I can get without a doubt. Allies and weapons are tricky. There are many Artifacts out there, but I don't know what sort of weapon I want.
Artifacts have a range of abilities, the one I have would be among the best. A cloak with spacial storage and defensive properties, that is also bound with the soul and grows with me is sort of a jackpot for me.
It's like having armour without the issues it would cause me. An considering I like using my hands on occasion, it provides me with somewhere to store my weapon.
It's pretty much a perfect Artifact for me.
But I had to cast those thoughts aside for today, I had to do the written exam for now.
Honestly, I was a little scared. I had studied, but I knew it would be really damn hard since the time I had spent studying was incredibly low.
I looked at everyone handing in their phones, and realised I didn't have one. And so, I was standing before an invigilator, trying my best to convince him I didn't have a phone.
"I promise I don't have one, I'm not lying."
He gave me another look, and he was about to counter but, another instructor berated him for acting the way he did. Though, I totally understood where he was coming from. It was odd that I didn't have a phone.
'I'll buy one today, I'll ask Charlotte to help me buy one. I don't exactly keep up with tech from another world.'
And with that, I was allowed into the exam hall and I sat in my allocated seat.
