I looked and looked, yet I couldn't find my name on any of the rankings. The possibility that I hadn't gotten in, the possibility that someone like me... didn't make it into this Academy.
'Impossible. How can I of all people not get in?'
I looked at Charlotte, who seemed to be just as bewildered as I was. Considering my performance in the combat exam, I should've been guaranteed a spot in this place.
'Surely I didn't flop the written exam so hard that they couldn't accept me?'
Then, at the very front of the room, I felt a presence. An incredible one. I turned my head, and the creature I saw was nothing short of monstrous. The door closed behind the creature, drawing everyone's attention to her, it didn't seem all too fearsome despite it's presence.
That is, if you were a total moron. I could feel shivers run down my spine, the Awakened that was the source of this monstrous presence was on a totally different level to anyone I had ever met before, excluding Caelus of course. Her strength was probably akin to that of Caelus's, in other words, she was another one of those Awakened who could single handedly overthrow countries.
I took a good look at the Awakened, it was a woman. She was fairly tall, her skin was a fairly light brown, and she had a set of green eyes. Her pupils weren't normal, they were slits. Her face had several scars on it, as did her arms and it was likely that these scars ran throughout her entire body. She was a brunette, and she was pretty damn muscular. She was probably the most muscular woman I had seen in this world. Though, that was mostly because all of the women I had seen didn't have very much muscle.
I could recognise this woman with a singular, and brief glance. Though, I didn't remember her name, I did remember was that she was a faculty head at this Academy, and she specialised in close combat. She was a beastman, or beastwoman? Well, whatever the official term was. That was what she was.
Beastmen were naturally very physically adept, even without Mana, their physical abilities were superhuman. And, when they enhanced themselves with Mana their strength was unparalleled. And, so were their senses.
Of course, that only applied when you compared them to people of a similar calibre. By that, I mean that if you compared Caelus, who could make mountains shiver without breaking a sweat to an average Awakened beastman then of course Caelus would come out on top in terms of physical abilities.
But, if you an average human Awakened and an average Awakened beastman then beastman would come out on top.
Then, the woman at the far end of the hall made eye contact with me.
I blinked.
And when my eyes opened, I found myself standing beside her. And, I was no longer beside Charlotte.
'In the time I blinked, she moved from where she was standing to me. Then, she grabbed me and moved me here. And she did that without even noticing her movement? She might be as fast as Caelus. Though, it's not like I can see either of them when they move so I can't really make that comment with absolute certainty.'
"I was looking for you. You're Reinhardt, ain't you? I'm Adrienne, faculty head of the combat department."
I looked down at her, wondering what she could've wanted with me.
"You can stay, or rather, you've been admitted. But, your admission process is a bit different to everyone else's. You're a special admission, so, you'll be exempted from the rankings for now."
"Why am I a special admission?"
She smiled a little awkwardly before speaking, and when she spoke I saw her rather long canines stick out. I looked at the rest of her, she didn't look particularly beast like. She looked fairly human, aside from the eyes and teeth.
"It's cause of a couple reasons. Your written exam was obviously terrible. And, in the combat exam, your efficiency of Mana was awful. You didn't really dodge, and your technique couldn't be worse. You don't take advantage of the size of your weapon, or your own reach. And, you did fairly dumb things like wrap yourself in a shield of blood, a substance that conducts electricity, to defend yourself from blasts of lightning. You should've failed to get it in, but that's only if we do things by the book."
I couldn't really refute what she said, my understanding of combat was lacking.
"But, you've got a couple of things going for you. You're pretty strong, and have the highest Mana Capacity in history. So, thats why you get a special admission."
