The following morning, Marigold descended the stairs from the second floor, her fatigued body dragging along. She arrived in the living room on the ground floor only to discover Brian and Evans awaiting her at the dining table.

The two men sat facing each other, seemingly engaged in a silent contest, exuding an air of tension. A seat at the other end of the table was reserved for Marigold.

The table was adorned with a lavish breakfast, excessive for the three individuals present.

Approaching the table, Marigold found Brian in the midst of voraciously savoring a plate of mushroom soup. Upon hearing the commotion behind him, he swiftly turned around and enthusiastically waved his arms while exclaiming boisterously, "Mariiiii, good morning! How did you sleep last night? Did you feel lonely without me by your side?"

He then deliberately cast a disdainful glance at Evans seated across from him.
