Another dream(?) - Daniel Davis

“Our child… he is… different!” He cast a slight look of discomfort at his own child who looked back at him with judging eyes. For a moment, he became frightened of him and forgot that a vicious Ifrit was chasing them to kill his child. ‘The same dream, the same team! What is happening?’ Daniel thought in her arms.

“Ho! Ho! Ho! Here you are.” A grave and vicious voice sounded from within the darkness of the cave.

“Ayah! Lady Ayah!” He said, in an ironically friendly manner as the mother clutched the baby strongly and hid beside her husband. “Since you are a direct heir to the Sleeks, I shall give you one last chance.” As he came out of the darkness, he demanded: “Give me your child and I shall spare you and your husband.”

His words seemed to wake Brave from his trance and he loudly proclaimed: “King of the Ifrits or King of the realm, I don’t care who you are. If you set your eyes upon my family…”

With lightning speed, Furaith stuck his left index nail up Brave's neck and paralysed him with just a movement of his eyeball.

“Well, Brave of the unnamed! I, Shah Furaith am here to take your child from you. What will you do about it? Kahahaha!”

Furaith stopped laughing to hear Brave's wife who cried:

“No! Not Brave, please!” She knelt down before him as she kept on pleading: “No! Please! I will do what you say!”

Furaith seemed amused. ‘All of it is going just the same. Lucid dream or not, I just have to do something about it.’ Daniel started thinking what an infant could do to prevent his parents’ death. “Decide then, fine lady. Son, or husband? It’s not like you will be able to save your son if your husband dies now.” He started playing around with his hostage.

She hesitated, then lowered her head down to see her baby looking up at her calmly, his skin just as blue as his mother’s. ‘Now’s my chance.’ Dan stuck his small nail in his mother’s right arm and she accidently dropped him as she winced and he hurriedly crawled up to the devil.

Ayah was left confused and utterly dumbfounded when Furaith looked at the child on the ground and said: “Good choice, Ayah!”

Stab

Brave's spread eagled body fell down to the floor as blood gushed out of his throat incessantly and Ayah screamed looking at the demon, betrayed. “Sorry, my dear. He went too far without knowing his place.”

Furaith picked up the horror-struck child from the ground and turned around, leaving the cave echoing with constant shrill screams.

‘What was that?’ Daniel was thinking as peacefully as he could as Furaith hovered above the forest like a ghost but with unbelievable speed. They were heading north and it kept getting colder by the minute. Furaith hadn’t kept his promise but Daniel knew better than to believe such bullshit. Even if a part of him believed that it was all still just a dream, he could not bear to think that in the end, someone died because of him.

It was hurtful to think about, even if he didn’t know the victim personally.

Moving forward, a huge, black fortress came in view and Furaith landed on the top of the tallest tower. Many of the Ifrit servants had been waiting for them and he tossed the baby to one of them and said: “Give him a nametag and babysit him.” He started moving towards the staircase.

The servant was confused, as was the baby. He asked: “For how long, my liege?”

“What?” He stopped in his tracks. “I mean, for how long do I need to keep babysitting him, my lord?” he asked again.

Sigh

“Give the baby to someone else, for now.” The Shah said and so he did.

Slash

Daniel was about to puke but quickly calmed himself by telling himself that it was just a dream.

The servant’s headless body fell down on the knees and Furaith looked at the captain of the guards who held the baby now: “Give him a nametag and babysit him.” He started moving towards the staircase again, while the captain of the guards gave a quick nod, keeping his lips tightly shut.
