It hadn't been all that hard to infiltrate a psychiatric facility. Within a couple of hours of work, I had access to everything: from patient records to work schedules to the name of the head nurse's mother. It's like they want it to be easy.
I had chosen the best time to break in: the least amount of nurses, and the most gaps between shifts. I had asked one of Yasmine's girls to go in as a maid to clean up Julia's room. Julia would be sent out to the hall to the nurses' station, so she could be transported to her new room.
There was only one hallway leading from the space where her room is in, towards the main part of the facility. I'm waiting in that very hallway, right before it splits up, one hall that leads to an exit, the other towards the main hall.
There's only one hall she could go in. But she hadn't.
What is taking her so long?
I should've gotten myself one of those nurse uniforms. I wouldn't have had to sneak around if I had one of those damn uniforms. I wouldn't have to avoid questions I can't answer because I don't look like your typical mental hospital visitor. Apparently, those usually don't wear leather jackets or jeans.
The only thing that I do have going for me, is that this entire hospital is understaffed. I've only had to hide in a broom closet thrice. And one of those times was because one of the nurses went the wrong way, and came back right when I was about to get out. So really it was just two times.
And getting in was a walk in the park: the window that leads to the toilets was left open, so I only needed to wait until it was empty to sneak in. It went almost too well.
I look at my watch. It's five past three and she's nowhere to be seen.
I listen closely when I hear a voice. It's very vague, but I hear a man calling after someone.
'Fuck me,' I whisper. I knew that if I wanted something done well, I needed to do it myself.
I get all of my belongings out of my jacket and dump the jacket in the closet. A leather jacket won't help my credibility. I take out a bucket and a mop. Now the only thing I can do is hope that this facility doesn't have any uniforms for janitors.
I have to restrain myself when a nurse comes my way as I almost went back into the closet out of habit. Usually, when I'm out this late, I don't want to be seen.
The man seems somewhat surprised when seeing me, looking me up and down. I force a smile while his eyes linger on my jeans. Apparently, there is a uniform, and I'm not wearing it.
'Er, could you help me? I just started here, and one of the nurses told me there was an emergency in room 238,' I say, 'would you know where that is?'
I try to make myself look as non-threatening as possible, but I do have to admit that's quite hard when I'm almost a foot taller than the man and I have the power to snap his femur in half with one hand. And on top of that, humans always seem to detect that I'm not the average gym rat.
'I already wondered why I hadn't seen you around yet...' he said, looking me up and down again. 'It's that way,' he gestured towards the end of the hallway, 'end of the hallway.'
'Thank you.' I quickly made myself scarce, I had no interest in questions.
I made my way towards where I heard the man from. Before I turned the corner, I heard another voice.
'Let go of my arm.' It is soft, I wouldn't have heard it if it wasn't for my hearing.
I don't want to make too much noise, so I don't start to run. But the closer I get, the more uncomfortable she sounds. By the time I reach the corner, she's started to truly resist. I want to let my plan fly out the window and just smash his head in. However, I'm here to be quick and efficient, not wildly aggressive and a little psychotic.
'Listen to her,' I say, calmly.
