Chapter 32: Corpse

"Please tell me what I've done

To earn this gunshot, aiming for my heartbeat."

-Davina Michelle (Liar)

Bright red blood is dripping from her chin. Her hands are crimson up to her elbows as if she is wearing red gloves. She is still wearing my jacket over her hospital gown; it looks misplaced in this bizarre situation.

A shiver runs down my spine when she drops the heart onto the stone floor. It makes a squelching noise when it lands. I can swear that I saw it twitch as if it were still alive.

I look up to meet her eyes. A soft breeze stirs her hair as she stares at me, not moving. Although my heart is racing and I'm sweating like crazy, I can't seem to move either. Winston, however, doesn't feel such restraint.

She reaches for her gun. I can see it from the corner of my eye, but when I turn to tell her to stop, she isn't aiming the gun anymore.
