SEPARATION

"You survived and your family did a great job," Lydia's voice echoed in my head. "There will be no demons henceforth. Enjoy the peace."

My eyes opened slightly, and I caught sight of a woman wearing a teal scrub top. Her hands were covered with white gloves, and she wore a blue face mask as she checked the blood bag that was transfusing blood into my body via an intravenous line. It took time for me to grasp that it was Mrs. Elizabeth, but I was glad she was around.

"You don't have to force yourself to wake up," Mrs. Elizabeth said, softly. "You need all the rest you can get."

"Where is everybody?" I asked, whispering.

"Your family is in the living room. Hannah hasn't come since yesterday. But I'm sure she will soon come to check up on you."

"Where is my container of blood?"

"Your dad disposed of it for safekeeping. We can't let it get into the wrong hands. You're going to be alright, okay?"

"Can I speak with my dad?"
