Avoidance

Zeriel watched Alisha intently as she finished her meal in silence. As the waiter cleared the table, Zeriel wondered how long he could keep avoiding the question that had been hanging in the air all night.

As they left the restaurant, Zeriel made the decision to drive Alisha home. It was a fast drive, his mind preoccupied with thoughts of what he wanted to say to her, and whether he could find the courage to do so. He parked his car in front of her house within minutes, and the atmosphere inside the vehicle was heavy with unspoken words.

"You're home now, I'll see you at work tomorrow," Zeriel finally broke the silence, his voice tinged with a hint of evasion.
