Episode 15 The Heart of Helios

As Lagos Verdan prepared for the evening's events, he couldn't help but reflect on the expectations and protocols of his world. Reina, the Queen of Proxima, had not only extended her hand in alliance but had also shared a cure for Scourge, a deadly affliction that had plagued Helios for generations. Her actions had demonstrated her willingness to bridge the gap between their worlds, and Lagos knew that Proxima held a position of power and influence that surpassed Helios.

Tonight, he had to remember that, as someone who received her aid humbly, he should wait until the Queen of Proxima spoke to him first.

Lagos couldn't deny that the thought was a bit discouraging.

As he adjusted his regal white robes and prepared to meet the Queen of Proxima, Lagos carried with him a sense of curiosity and anticipation. This evening held the promise of forging a new path for both Helios and Proxima, and Lagos was determined to ensure that their meeting would be a memorable and historic event.

However, at the present moment, Lagos Verdan, the Cor of Helios, found himself locked in a silent battle of wills with the Queen of Proxima, Reina. Her determined gaze bore into him, and he couldn't help but admire her obsidian eyes that seemed to reach into his being.

Lagos remained composed, refusing to be the first to break eye contact. He had been raised in a culture that valued hierarchy and protocol, and he knew that, as someone of a lower place in comparison to the might of Proxima, he should wait patiently for her or she might be insulted and withdraw her aid.

As the tension in the room escalated, Lagos realized that the other guests at the dinner table had started to notice the silent exchange between their Queen and their revered Cor. Whispers and hushed conversations spread like wildfire, creating an undercurrent of anticipation.

"Um—" they both said at the same time. They blinked at each other, surprised.

Reina's piercing gaze softened slightly, and a hint of a smile played at the corners of her lips. It was a silent agreement that the staring contest had reached its conclusion.

Finally, Lagos decided to break the silence, his voice smooth and commanding as he addressed her directly, "Your Majesty, I must say your reputation precedes you. I have heard tales of your resilience and determination. It is an honor to have you as our guest in Helios."

"You flatter me too much. I believe it is an honor to bask in your divine presence, Your Divinity," she replied.

The tension that had momentarily filled the room dissipated as Reina and Lagos Verdan, the Cor of Helios, began to exchange words freely. Their initial standoff had garnered the attention of the other guests, but now, with a more relaxed atmosphere, conversation flowed more naturally.

Reina found herself engaged in discussions with Helian dignitaries, learning about their culture and customs, while Lagos shared stories of Helios and its unique way of life. The evening transformed into a vibrant exchange of ideas and experiences, as bridges were built between the two worlds.

It was a memorable evening, one that held the promise of future cooperation and understanding between their civilizations.

After the sumptuous dinner, Reina, Eyseck, Cardinal Senos, and Lagos Verdan gathered in a private meeting room, prepared to delve into the crucial negotiations that would determine the future of their cooperation.

The meeting room exuded an air of formality, with polished wooden furnishings and subdued lighting. They gathered around a round, exquisitely carved table in the private meeting room, which fostered an atmosphere of equality and collaboration, emphasizing that all parties present were equal partners in the discussions that would shape their future.

The atmosphere was charged with anticipation as they prepared to discuss important matters, including alliances, trade agreements, and the transfer of advanced medical aid from Proxima to Helios. The fate of their two worlds rested on the outcome of these negotiations, and all present were keenly aware of the weight of their responsibilities.

Reina, with her determined expression, was ready to advocate for the interests of Proxima, while Lagos Verdan emanated an air of wisdom and authority, prepared to represent his realm's aspirations.

Cardinal Senos coughed as the topic had seemingly derailed, "Queen of Proxima, we appreciate your willingness to consider this alliance. However, there are certain matters we must address before we proceed with the marriage proposal."

"Of course, Cardinal Senos. Please, go ahead and let us know what conditions you have in mind. I am eager to hear you out."

"We understand that the cure for Scourge is a valuable resource, and we would like to ensure its continued availability in our realm. Can you guarantee a stable supply of this treatment?"

"I will continue to supply as much as Proxima can produce even if marriage talks break down with the Cor Lagos Verdan," Reina reclined into her chair.

Cardinal Senos seemed to jot down something in his notes. "If you were to be bound in marriage, we would require Proxima's support in our ongoing efforts to maintain the balance of power within our government. This would involve your assistance in matters of divine influence and guidance."

He wanted her to make a coalition army in suppressing the rebels.

Reina arched an eyebrow. She knew that if the government of Helios would be destabilized, she would need to exert force in returning power to the current leaders.

This was quite the gamble. "I see your concerns, Cardinal Senos. We value the potential partnership between our realms and are open to discussing these conditions further. However, I must also emphasize the importance of mutual respect and cooperation in this alliance."

She wanted for him to know there are limits.

"Thank you for your understanding, Queen Reina. We look forward to fruitful discussions as we work towards a brighter future together."

The room was filled with a sense of cautious optimism as the negotiations continued.

As Eyseck and Queen Reina prepared to depart from the meeting room, the Cor of Helios extended a gracious invitation to Reina. He offered a warm smile and said, "Your Majesty, before you leave, I would be honored if you would join me for a glass of Helian wine. It is a rare vintage, and I believe it would be a delightful way to conclude our evening."

Reina exchanged a brief glance with Eyseck, who nodded in agreement. She then turned her attention back to Lagos and smiled politely. "Thank you, Cor Lagos Verdan, for your kind invitation. I would be delighted to share a glass of Helian wine with you."

With that, they made their way to a more private area of the palace, where they could enjoy the wine and engage in more relaxed conversation.
