Chapter 52: The End of an Era

The minutes that followed were excruciating.

As we headed outside, Archie and I took in the sight in front of us, and my hand instantly reached for his, squeezing it so tightly that I feared I’d cut his blood circulation.

“Sh*t,” Archie whispered from beside me. I didn’t have the courage to look at his face. I knew what he was referring to. There were a lot of bodies from our enemies spread on the ground, but there were also a lot from ours too.

I spotted Matias a few feet away from me and gasped, my hand reaching my mouth and preventing it from letting a cry out.

“Come on, baby. Don’t look,” Archie told me, gently cupping my face and forcing me to look at him. I could see the pain and guilt on his face, but I swallowed down the lump in my throat anyway. “We’ll have time to mourn. Let’s just deal with the police first.”
