In a dark spare conference room in the basement of an FBI field office just outside Denver, Dominic Black had kicked the rest of his team out to face the cluster of faces on the video screens alone. He did not play well with others, he was not quick to cooperate and he hated the concept of ‘making nice,’ but he often recognized the benefits of it all – when it suited him. He had ascended to a lead level with The Arm because of his ability to accomplish the organization's goals – often through means that other agencies would frown upon – without hesitation or preamble. He was not there to make friends or connections and he was as ruthless as he was efficient.
He also had the innate ability to recognize the wisdom of certain moves and what those outcomes would look like, often long before others did. He was keen on potential, seeing moves like a brilliant chess player, two or three steps ahead of his opponent.
