Genuine smile(chapter 29)

Lucas sat on the couch with a cup of coffee in his hand,he was reading some documents while waiting for Jennie so both of them can leave for work,when he had seen how soundly she was sleeping he didn't want to wake her up.Jennie woke up she was feeling hungry,she looked at the watch and hurriedly got up to prepare herself,she had woken up late very unlike her since she always woke up early,she couldn't believe she had slept so soundly in a new environment.After preparing herself she headed to the living room and found Lucas seating on the couch drinking coffee,"good morning?did you sleep well last night?" asked Lucas looking at her "good morning to you too sir,I slept well" she said.It's been long since she woke up and someone greeted her with a good morning even back at home she hardly had someone to greet her early in the morning,she looked at Lucas,she still couldn't believe she was his contracted wife,married not because of love but because she wanted to seek revenge now she realised how expensive revenge was but she was willing to pay the price even if it meant selling her soul.

Lucas seeing she was comfortable better than how she was last night sighed in relief,if he wanted to make her fall in love with him first she had to be comfortable with him,but there was still a distance between them she even addressed him as sir."You don't have to address me as sir when we are at home" he said,Jennie nodded in agreement if those men who work for his grandfather heard me address him sir they might doubt us,she thought,"Nanny has prepared your brekafast" he said,she headed to the dining table,she was suprised to find all kinds of breakfast,she looked at the housekeeper confused was I supposed to eat all of this,she wondered "morning madam,I didn't know what you like to eat for breakfast so I prepared all of this for you to choose" she said,Jennie was pleased of how thoughtful she was,she even prepared so much breakfast for her to choose,she smiled politely "thank you,but you don't have to worry I can eat any type of breakfast,you don't have to waste food and tire yourself" she said,she knew how tiring it was to prepare so much breakfast, the housekeeper smiled "madam,it was your husband who said I should prepare all of this for you,later you should tell me all your favourites" Jennie was suprised when she heard what she said,your husband that word made her feel weird,so it was her boss though they were just married through a contract he was still treating her well ."It's okay,I'll tell you about my favourite later and no need to call me madam just call me Jennie" she said and sat down to have her breakfast.The housekeeper looked at her as she ate her breakfast and smiled,she is so polite and respectful,I hope they stay happy together she thought.

After she was done eating her breakfast,she found Lucas still in the same place,"are you done,let's go then" he said and stood up,Jennie was shocked, she looked at him confused "I'll drive you to work since we are all going at the same conpany" he explained.Though they were married and working at the same company she didn't want to go with him,if the employees saw her coming to work with the boss they will ask her all type of questions and she didn't know what to explain to them,their marriage was a to be kept a sectret it was better they go separately "thank you,but there is no need I'll take a taxi" she said.Lucas was suprised by her rejection,doesn't she want to go with me,he thought,her rejection made him feel a little bitter but he understood her reason,he cleared his throat "taxi aren't allowed here,I'll ask my driver to drive you to work" he said.Jennie nodded,"okay",Lucas drove to work after giving his instructions to the driver,the driver drove Jennie to work in a very expensive and luxurious car," you can stop here I'll go on my own" she said "but madam,we are almost near the company" said the driver,he had been instructed to drive her safely to the company but now she wanted to walk the remaining distance on her own if his boss found out he might be punished "I know,I don't want to attract attention,I'll go now" she said and got out of the car.Coming to work with such a car will attract unnecessary attention and she didn't want to be centre of attention,it was better to walk if she didn't have a taxi.

It was almost lunch time and Jennie was bored to death,since she got to work she didn't have any important work to do except preparing coffee for her boss and reading some documents.Her boss had told her there was no much work for her to do,she felt happy and lucky now she had alot of time to rest of late she had been getting tired easily,pregnacy was harder than she thought,she was either tired or sleepy making it hard for her to work what she didn't know was that he refused to give her work on purpose such a big company it was hard to not have alot of work to do,he was doing all the work so she can have alot of rest since she was pregnant,he had given her alot of work when he didn't know about her pregnancy now that he knew he won't repeat the same mistake,he knew to how crucial rest was for pregnant women.

Lucas sat in his office with a serious expression holding a tablet in his hand,he was reading on how to take care of a pregnant woman,he didn't know much about pregnacy but now that his wife was pregnant he needed to know the dos and don'ts for a pregnat woman,even though he had his Nanny to take care of her it was not enough for him because he was in love with her and he wanted to take care of her.He looked at his wrist watch lunch break was almost over,he knew Jennie didn't like to eat at the cafeteria she always brought her lunch but since she was staying with him he knew she didn't bring her lunch,Lucas got up and headed to the cafeteria,he had read pregnant women shouldn't skip their meals it wasn't healthy.

Most of the employees were done with their lunch,those still in the cafeteria were busy chatting,Lucas walked in and everyone was shocked to see their boss come to the cafeteria,he never come to the cafeteria,they all become quite "what is boss doing here?" asked one of the employees in a low tone "ssh,he might hear you" said another.Lucas stood at the counter and ordered food,the air in the cafeteria was tense,no one made a sound even the one serving his food was shaking due to nervousness once the food was ready he left and everyone sighed in relief.Jennie was busy typing on her laptop when she heard a knock and Lucas got in,she quickly stood up nervously "sir" she called,she didn't expect him to come to her office during lunch break.Lucas handed her a paper bag "don't skip your meals" he said ,Jennie was suprised, did my boss bring me lunch,how did he know I didn't have my meals, she wondered.She smiled my boss is so considerate she thought,her whole life no one treated her well but since she come to this country she had met few people who were kind to her including her boss.A genuine smile appeared on her face after a very long time,Lucas seeing her smile his heart skipped a beat," thank you sir" she said.Lucas left feeling happy and satisfied,a smile appeared on his face,her smile is so beautiful he thought heading towards his office.

"So she is the one you married?" asked Chris and Lucas nodded "are you sure about her?,she is your secretary" "Mmh,she is the best choice" Lucas replied "okay then,you should tell your grandfather now that you're married you should get your inheritance" he said."Not now" he said "but why?you're now married that was the agreement why delay it? or do you have any other plans?" he asked "If I tell grandpa I'm married he will doubt me I'll have to wait for sometime before I tell him" he said and Chris nodded.He had only be told about the change in the will not long ago if he tells his grandfather now he is married he might not believe him even if he shows their marriage certificate,he will know he only got married for the sake of inheritance and that might bring issues between them he also had other reason for delay his inheritance."We have made plans about our new mission" Chris said,"good,handle it well also tell Daniel I have a new job for him,I want him to protect my wife" he said "sure,did you tell her about your other business,you know how dangerous it is,she needs to know so she can be careful" Chris said "I'll tell her at the right time,for now I'll protect her" he said."You're taking this marriage too seriously,are you maybe in love with her and using this contract to the her to you?" asked Chris,Lucas looked at him with a sharp gaze frowning,Chris smiled nervously "sorry,I'm just joking" he said.
