Chapter six

Present Time

Ash gives me that look of disappointment when he sees me arrive back at the cave with blood dripping over my lower lip.

"It was only one girl." I laugh.

"For a moment, I wasn't sure if you were trying to fuck her or eat her," Ace laughs.

I chuckle. "You know I have to play with my food." The kills, which are unexpected, and those my prey doesn't see anything coming, are more fun. I can torture her or scare her to pieces, but I like the surprise.

Getting the smell of a werewolf, I couldn't tell which one was coming. They move quickly towards the cave, their feet crunching loudly on the ground beneath them. I wasn't nervous, I could negotiate myself out of any fight, and if it was a smaller pack, I know we are ready for the fight.

"Friends welcome," I say with a grin, intentionally showing my fangs.

"I am Alpha cricket." I detect a hint of nervousness in his voice, but it is also overpowered by a level of confidence.

"I know who you are," I say in a deep voice.

He looks shocked, but also relieved. I am sure he is glad he doesn't have to give me the whole story.

"I am here to see where your heads are at and where you stand with the werewolves." His eyes analyze me, looking for any clue they may offer.

"That all depends. Do you plan on challenging me? Do you want to change our way of life or the food menu?"

"No, the forest isn't my concern. The only thing I'm worried about is the safety of my pack." My eyes glance over the small little packs of wolves. There were two males and one female. I analyze the way the female clings to his arm.

I nod. "If you're not challenging us, then we will not challenge you." I literally cross my hands behind my back, because for one I am a dramatic jerk. I know though, in time I will destroy every single creature in this forest, but for right now I will grant these three safety. I will play nice, besides I did say my favorite attack comes as a surprise.

"Thank you," he nods in my direction, and I return a friendly smile.

My eyes watch as he walks away. How stupid could it have been to turn his back on me? If I let my deepest desires come out, I could attack him while his back is turned. But I know right now the best move is to play it safe and pretend to be friends. Then when the time is right, I'll take over the forest. The vampires will rule.

"Do you surely think it's best not to pick a fight?" Ace asks. I know he is ready for blood, this war.

"When the time is right, we will eliminate every werewolf."
