Filth

Stumbling over the rock,

I fell in a gutter,

A smile crept on my face:

As I tried to clean myself better!

I moved my hands and legs inside the filth

I thought I was clever

Thought I was cleaning my body,

But little did I know I wasn't any better!

Just then:

I heard a pleasant voice!

An echo brushed past my ears,

Uttering Your Holy Name,

Flowers bloomed in my heart,

I stood stunned and stiff,

Forgetting all my fears!

Looking around my surrounding,

As if I woke up from a dream,

My eyes went wide when I saw the filth,

Embracing my entire being!

Oh! What was I doing?

Why was I standing in the filth?

I should've been blind, you see?

I should've been cleaning outside, you see?

With my heart galloping thousands of times,

I hurried out of the gutter,

Following the whisper of Your voice,

I seemed to travel millions of miles,

But You cleaned me bit by bit,

As if magical air touching every pore of my skin,

Removing the filth accumulated over millions of years,

Without making me suffer.
