Helpless Situation

"Oh. My. God!" Anna exclaimed out loud.

It was already past noon. She ought to have finished her research on Roy Kim, her would-be 'lawfully' married husband before preparing to meet him.

How could the only thing she knew about the stranger she had accepted to marry be his name aside from the fact that he exuded confidence and intelligence, plus his generosity, a sign of his wealthy background?

That she was once in the national sports team did not mean that she knew everyone important to their country.

Anna felt that she was not yet serious with life and ready to go back to the society.

'When did he call? How did my phone slip into the aeroplane mode?' Anna was confused as she walked over to the other bedstand to pick up her handbag.

It was after she searched it and found the complimentary card Roy had given to her at the airport that it dawned on her what had happened.

Seeing the bag and the luggage she had come home with from Vancouver in her bedroom only had something to do with her mother. Hence, it explained how her phone got into the flight mode.

Anna was dumbfounded. She shut her eyes and exhaled deeply. The next moment after she opened her eyes, she went to her call log and used the number that called her while she was sleeping to compare with the one on the complimentary.

Seeing that it was a match, she quickly slipped the card back into her handbag before proceeding to dial the number.

While waiting for the call to connect, Anna rubbed the tips of her fingers with her thumb to control her nervousness.

She had no idea of what Roy's reaction was going to be to her missing his call and then calling back after an hour had passed.

For a fact, she knew that nothing good came out of offending people who were more powerful than her.

Her past glory could not cover her now. She was irrelevant.

If she wanted to come to the point where she wouldn't be afraid of offending people, she would need to work her way to the top. Again.

"How come it took you so long to get something as small as this?" Roy waved a small dirty yellow booklet in front of Charles as his brows dipped.

'Something small?' Mr. Charles' eyes bulged.

How does navigating his way into sneaking into the private study of a minister of the Federal Republic of Danastan to steal his family register be taken lightly?

As far as he was concerned, that small booklet was powerful enough to take his life. He did not dare take his mission for granted.

"Tsk-tsk-tsk." Roy clicked his tongue on seeing his reaction. "It took you more than an hour to get this. You are lagging."

There was a silent threat that accompanied Roy's next statement. "Do you need some time off?"

Mr. Charles suddenly felt cold sweat appear on his back. He quickly shook his head and adjusted the rimmed glasses sitting on the bridge of his nose.

"No, Sir."

Roy considered him for a moment before waving the topic away. "Has she contacted you yet?" he asked as he crossed his leg over the other with a look of anticipation.

He was expecting that Anna Carter Lee should have reached out to him by now given the amount of time that had passed, but reading the expression on his personal assistant's face told him otherwise.

"Unfortunately, Sir, no call has come from her," Mr. Charles reported. He felt sorry for his boss.

He learned from Zane that his girlfriend wasn't reachable and now, the woman he managed to snag from the airport to help him out of an impending danger was ghosting him.

He really was in a helpless situation.

"How many hours does it take to get over a jet lag? I mean, she literally slept throughout the plane ride so what kind of jet lag is she getting over?" Roy inquired with a dark gaze.

He seemed to have forgotten that he was the one who concluded on that idea being Anna's reason for not answering or returning his calls.

He never once thought towards the direction of her internationally ignoring him. He thought that it was something impossible hence, the reason he didn't mention it.

At the moment, Mr. Charles felt that he was the one in a helpless situation. How was he supposed to answer that kind of question thrown at him?

He was not an AI robot.

Roy did not wait for his response before asking, "How long will it take for Minister Kim to return?"

Roy was a little worried that his father would return home and put an end to his plans. He must get married out of his own will before he finds out.

Charles glanced at his wristwatch before lifting his gaze. "He should be back in two."

Hearing that his father would return in two hours, Roy instructed, "Call her again."

As Mr. Charles nodded in compliance and dipped his hand inside the inner pocket of his suit jacket, he brought out a ringing phone.

Instantly, his eyes lit up. "Sir, Miss Lee is calling," he revealed. Swiping his finger across the screen, he quickly took a step forward and passed the phone to Roy.

---

At the other end, Anna felt a thump in her chest while waiting for the call to connect. But as soon as it did, a smile automatically spread across her face.

"Hello, Mr. Kim. It's Anna speaking. I'm sorry I missed your call."

"You are late," Roy said after a few seconds of silence. It did not register to him that she had already apologized for what he was reminding her of. He just couldn't help it.

Regardless, he did not wait for her response before speaking again. "Do you know…?

"Yes," Anna acknowledged.

"Please get these documents ready and take a cab there…" Roy directed. "I will meet you in thirty minutes. We can talk about the details regarding our marriage on the ride to the district office."

With the next agenda given, the conversation came to an end.

Anna quickly picked up her handbag from the nightstand and rushed to the door while booking a ride with her phone.

In that rush, she almost bumped into her mother who seemed surprised to see her on the move.

"Where are you going to?" Ms. Carter inquired curiously. Her gaze scanned her quietly, as she wondered where she was running off to in such a hurry.

Just then, Anna remembered something important. "Mum, can you give me the family register?"

Ms. Carter eyed her. "What do you need it for?"

When Anna did not answer immediately as she was still looking for a quick lie to cook up, she rasied her voice. "You are not thinking of doing what I'm thinking right?"
