An Apology With Gifts

Max gestured at the flowers being the reason he couldn't shake her hand before he handed them to her.

"I'm sorry for turning up late again, but I'm glad I made it to our date today."

Susan received the flowers and tried not to smile more than necessary. She didn't want him to think that she could be easily pleased with some flowers, no matter how fresh, big and expensive they were.

The flowers were so beautiful that she couldn't help sniffing them. "Thank you." She finally lifted her head. "I like them. They smell so nice."

"I'm glad you appreciate them," Max said while offering her a seat. As soon as she settled down, he dropped the branded bag next to her feet. "I know that you are worth more than flowers, so I got you something else, and I hope it's to your taste."

Susan pretended to be surprised by the gift as she watched him return to his seat from the corner of her eyes.
