Things went smoother than Xiye had imagined. After implementing the smart plan, in less than a month, over five thousand D-ballers had poured into the base.
They all cheerfully signed the unequal treaties and were content with selling themselves one by one. Whether they worked in mining, farming, or tracking biological specimens, they faced no difficulties and had no complaints. They were willing to work hard as long as they could earn those so-called honor points.
Xiye implemented an honor list, ranking players according to the points they contributed. These players worked diligently and passionately. The top miner, named King of Liver King, was online for a mere four hours a day. Even slaves threatened with death worked longer hours than the eight-hour workday demanded by the Federation.
Xiye couldn't help but appreciate the sheer commitment and simplicity of the planetary inhabitants. He secretly vowed that once he developed, he would treat them kindly and provide fair compensation for their hard work.
"Notify the host that the population registration has exceeded 5,000. According to the scale calculation, the second factory can be opened!"
Xiye nodded in satisfaction and said, "Excellent!"
The original plan was to open the second factory at least half a year later, but the excessive labor, coupled with the ideal environment of Mars, led to faster development than expected.
He looked at the data, and there were now a total of 5,134 individuals, with the number continuing to grow. Over 3,700 people chose the Green Titan gene, while 1,300 chose the Wood Elves, and fewer than two hundred chose the Developer lineage.
Observing the data, he couldn't help but marvel at the innocence and simplicity of the planetary people. Before the operation, the regulations clearly defined the distribution of labor for various races.
Initially, the Hulks were responsible for mining, transportation, and other strenuous work. The Wood Elves cultivated and maintained agricultural products on the arid Martian soil. The Developers, on the other hand, had more comfortable indoor roles. However, the free choice system had allowed 90% of the people to pick the two more demanding jobs.
While he had initially planned to assign roles, the intelligence provided them with a proposal, suggesting they choose freely. Xiye thought about the dire contracts the D-ballers had signed and decided to let them have their freedom.
After issuing this order, he was concerned about the possibility of too many Developers and too few Green Titans for basic labor. However, the simplicity of the planetary inhabitants once again provided the solution.
With their qualifications and hardworking nature, Xiye reaffirmed his belief that his ancestors had truly saved the universe!
At night, he strolled outside the base. The slight radiation on Mars and the effects of its low gravity posed no problems for him. With his ancestral lineage, even a slightly viable race could thrive on this planet, which wasn't much different from a ninth-level planet with challenging conditions.
As night fell, he saw a ninth-level planet. Its extreme weather ranged from freezing ground in the morning to an overheated, ocean-boiling afternoon.
"Lord Master!"
The Elves working the fields called out respectfully when they saw Xiye. He acknowledged them with a nod and encouraged them to continue their labor.
The crop cultivation was progressing quite smoothly, thanks to the favorable environment. Most crops with strong resilience could be planted, such as the Starfruit Melons from Pengel Star and Purple Rice Vines from Leinster Star.
As he observed the thriving melons and vines, Xiye couldn't help but feel his mouth water. He hadn't tasted fresh fruits and melons in over 10,000 years, having survived on nutrient solutions.
With the formation of the agricultural prototype, he sent it back to the Federation once. He bought Elven tree seeds to improve the land, expanded the planting area, acquired some exceptional biological specimens, and began trying to cultivate local livestock.
But while he was lost in dreams of the future, he suddenly spotted several crimson Elf orbs. His expression turned grim as he shouted, "Hurry back and rest! I don't want to see the scorched bodies of the Elves in my territory again!"
The Elves responded obediently when instructed not to work and headed back to the base, their spirits low. They secretly grumbled about how they should've chosen the Green Titan lineage to earn more honor points.
Unlike the Green Titans, who could freely roam Mars without needing protection, Elves had to use bio-energy to create a biofilm for themselves when outdoors. This biofilm consumed the water in their bodies. If they didn't return to the base to replenish, they'd ultimately become dehydrated and perish on the crimson planet.
In some cases, they might even be picked up and consumed by passing Green Titan players. While it might sound horrifying, it was a reality.
The primary reason was that Elf stems emitted an enticing fruity aroma. Many Green Titans needed to replenish their nutrient solutions while mining, but the odor wasn't pleasant. When they accidentally detected the fruity scent, it proved irresistible, and they found it a delightful diversion.
Initially, no one had resorted to this practice, but a player named "g you too beautiful" was the first to do so. Soon, it became a trend, leading to an uproar. Elf players even launched a collective protest. However, Xiye firmly denied it, reprimanding the Elves for not returning to the base and insisting it was untrue.
As a result of their necessity to return for hydration, all Elf players could only work for up to four hours before needing a two-hour break to replenish. This was the reason the Elves earned fewer honor points.
Many Elf players advocated for a modification to the point system. They wanted higher points for every hour worked. The Green Titans, however, vehemently opposed it, arguing that the Elves were already doing less labor, and despite their short working hours, they got a two-hour break. The Green Titans saw themselves as the hard workers.
In truth, the Green Titans were in the majority, and the Elves were the minority, making Xiye reluctant to displease the bulk of his miners. The proposed modification to the point system was subsequently discarded.
The Developers, however, presented another problem. This race had fewer players. Once they made the choice, more than half of them clamored for a gene swap, either to become Green Titans or Wood Elves.
In fact, they could make unlimited clones of themselves as long as their brains were backed up. If they wished, they could have a clone of each race. However, Xiye opposed this notion. Having multiple races would lead to complications in their subconscious evolution. It was not ideal for their future growth.
In the Universal Universe Federation, most affluent families considered the race and evolution route for their children from a young age. They would not readily change
, while the poor couldn't afford advanced genetic medicines. As a result, they would initially choose a race with low potential to perform menial labor and save up to buy a better gene for a fresh start.
Nevertheless, this approach limited future evolution. The poor had to change their lineage multiple times over numerous generations to become a good gene family. The process was lengthy and complicated.
Xiye couldn't stand by and watch those with potential waste their talents. Thus, he directly vetoed their gene change requests.
The Developers, numbering only around 100, could play a crucial role in controlling the instruments. Xiye wanted to ensure they would not be wasted.
Returning to the base after his tour, Xiye saw the bored Developers next to their instruments. He couldn't help but raise an eyebrow and think to himself that the people on this planet seemed to enjoy hard work, regardless of the risks. At least, that was preferable to becoming a star, as was evident from the previous mass exodus of would-be stars.
