In most cases, debates cannot resolve any issues.

If words alone could resolve problems, there wouldn't be wars and crimes, and there would be no need for armies or police.

All verbal disputes ultimately descend into a point where arguments can no longer continue. Both sides have said all they can and done all they could, yet they remain unable to convince each other. Such a scenario almost always occurs because neither side truly wishes to be convinced. Even the wisest sages often engage in such behavior—indeed, I know what you're saying makes sense, and I know what you're saying is probably correct, but I'm simply dissatisfied with XXXX, so I absolutely disagree!

The XXXX here can be "your attitude," "being forced to compromise," or any conceivable excuse by intelligent beings, or even no reason at all. In short, rejection is rejection.

Even individuals like Li Lin and Roland are not exempt from this pattern.
