This was absolutely absurd unless it was divine punishment from the heavens above.

Why should they stand at the town's gate, geared up with weaponry under such infernal weather conditions?

The only explanation was that there could be enemies within the town.

Nonetheless, this was far from good news for the captain of the guards.

He looked far from pleased.

As the captain, he would never disclose any information unless he saw the enemies with his own eyes.

So he kept a poker face, as the rain kept falling on his chainmail.
